Rachel Duncan, 90, formerly of Dahlgren and late of Mt. Vernon, died 12:40 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was born July 30, 1920, in Dahlgren, the daughter of Gordon and Bessie (Learned) Duncan. She is survived by a brother, George (wife Iris) Duncan of Belle Rive; and nieces and nephews Sharon (husband Larry) Gowler and family of Mt. Vernon; Sue (husband Larry) Sal and family of Michigan, David (wife Linda) McNeal and family of Michigan and Steven (wife Terry) McNeal and family of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parent; two sisters, Vivian and husband Adron Cross and Letitia and husband Mac McNeal; and two brothers, H.L. and wife Nana Duncan and Oren and wife Fritzi Duncan. Ms. Duncan was a retired registered nurse. She was a member of the retired military officers association and a retired Lt. Colonel with the U.S. Air Force, having served as a registered nurse during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. She was a member of Dahlgren Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with the Revs. John Ashby and Dustin Haile officiating. Interment will be at Richardson Hill Cemetery in Dahlgren with graveside military rites accorded by Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren
