    3. Velma M. Story, 83, of Opdyke, Illinois passed away at 7:49 P.M. on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mrs. Story was born on Friday, August 19, 1927 in Franklin County, Illinois the daughter of the late Ralph and Thelma (Hale) Crider. She married Samuel M. "Bill" Story on August 20, 1944 in Belle Rive, Illinois. Surviving family members include her husband: Samuel M. "Bill" Story of Opdyke, Illinois; 2 sons: Martin L. Story and wife Billie Sue of Spring Hill, Tennessee and Larry L. Story and wife Ann of Belle Rive, Illinois; 2 daughters: Lovetta Joy and husband Terry of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Donna Cummings and husband Randy of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 3 sisters: Jean Kennedy and husband Richard of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Irene Richardson and husband Norman of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Ailene Arnold and husband Wayne of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 2 nieces and 2 nephews also survive. Her parents and her brother: Charles Crider preceded her in death Velma was a housekeeper at the Doctor's Park Clinic before retiring, she volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a member of Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon where she taught Bible School and Sunday School, ministering to many children and ensuring they went to church. Velma was a loving and peaceful person; everyone she came into contact with lover her and the time they spent in her company. Her greatest love was that toward her family where she was the "glue that held her family close". VISITATION: will be held from 5 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, June 10, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. FUNERAL SERVICES: will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Reverend Kenneth Holland and Reverend Gary Davenport will officiate. INTERMENT: Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. For those who wish, memorials may be given to American Lung Association or the American Red Cross and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, Illinois 62864.
