Hi, In 1872 Mrs. Lydia A. Guthrie married Calvin Arpinkney Ishmael in Jefferson Co. I believe Lydia's maiden name was Gilbert. I'm looking for any information about them.  I can not find Calvin in the 1870 census or back any further.  I am at a loss as to know how to find him or Lydia before 1872. I do have his parents names from his death certificate, but I can not find them either.  Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Vicki

Hi Sandy, Thanks so much for your reply.  The information you have given me, I already know. I've been trying to find them before 1872.  I've tried to find Calvin's parents in the census records to no avail.  Their names are Leavis Ishmael and Sarah Bonds.  I was wondering if Leavis could actually be Lewis.  On Calvin's death certificate, Leavis is  from Tenn. and Sarah is from Missouri.  Calvin is buried in a Fresno, CA cemetery, but can not find him there either.
