Estella "Fern" Leslie, 95, of McLeansboro, died at 6:02 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro. She was born March 29, 1916, in White County, the daughter of Vergil and Angeline "Angie" (Gibbs) Wallace. She married the Rev. Clyde Hale Leslie; he preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 2003. Mrs. Leslie is survived by three grandchildren, Sabrina Allen of Dahlgren, Leslie Schirmer of Sugar Grove and Anthony "Tony" Ellison of Peoria; seven great-granddaughters; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Virginia Marie; two sisters, Golda Erwin and Belle Brown; and a brother, Everett H. Wallace. She was a homemaker and worked at Elders Shirt Factory. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in McLeansboro. Mrs. Leslie enjoyed making quilts, crocheting afghans and teaching ceramic classes. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in McLeansboro with the Rev. Jim Peak officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McLeansboro. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church and will be accepted at Harre Funeral Home.
