I have guessed that his mother was Susan born about 1797 NC from the 1850 Vigo Co, IN census and he must have had older brother John Wood born about 1819 since he's living next door. Benjamin Gilman Wood is buried at Oakdale Cemetery in Jefferson Co, IL as well as his wife Mary. Their daughter, Sophenia is also buried there. Son Albert Asher Wood is also supposed to be buried there but I don't think there's a marker. Coomb's Funeral Home in Wayne County, IL reported he is buried there. Son Benjamin Emmit Wood is also buried at Oakdale but in an unmarked grave. Son Ransom C. Wood is buried at East Hickory Hill Cemetery, JCI. There is a Matilda Wood born 1811 buried at Oakdale but I don't know if she is connected to this Wood family from Vigo Co, IN or not.
