Vernon, IL Register News - Monday, 12 September 1910 James W. CLARK, one of Mt. Vernon's best citizens, was called to his reward Sunday morning at 1:45. His age was 68, and he was born in Dodds Township, in Jefferson County. His life was spent largely, within the boundaries of the county. Mr. CLARK had been ill for several weeks, and his sickness was due to an affection of the h_____. He was stricken with paralysis which hastened the end, which came peacefully, and he passed away like one passing into a sound and restful sleep. In 1862, he answered the call of his country and enlisted in Co. I, 60th Illinois, the regiment commanded by Col. ANDERSON, and the company, under the captaincy of John GIBSON. His term of service was marked by the faithful discharge of his duty until the close of the war. He was a member of Coleman Post G.A.R. In early life Mr. CLARK was a member of the Methodist Church, but later he placed his membership in the United Brethern Church. He was twice married, to Miss Margaret CLARK, and the second to Miss Catherine TROUTT. Six children survive the father and they are Ed, of Indianapolis, Charles of Belleville, Fred, Will, Pearl and Morton, of this city. The funeral service was conducted at the residence, 1110 South Twelfth Street, Monday afternoon, September 12, and the body was laid to rest in Old Union. Rev. B. A.
