    3. MT. VERNON - Roger C. Luer, 62, of Walnut Hill, passed away at 3:21 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was born Aug. 9, 1948, in Litchfield, the son of Charles A. and Arlene D. (Ruhrup) Luer. He married Judy A. Schlueter on March 27, 1971, at St. Peter United Church of Christ in Centralia, and she survives in Walnut Hill. In addition to his wife, Mr. Luer is survived by one son, Nicholaus C. Luer and wife Jennifer (Manion) Luer of Mt. Vernon; his parents, Charles A. Luer and Arlene D. Luer of Savoy; two sisters, Londa J. Rohlfing and husband Charles of Savoy and Laurel B. Long and husband Bruce of Waelder, Texas; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Luer was a member of the St. Peter United Church of Christ in Centralia since 1966, and was previously a member of the St. Peter United Church of Christ in Champaign. He was a founding member of the church's mission board, member and past president of the church council, chairman of the church's Wurstmart and served on the search committee. He was an award-winning photographer who loved to travel to take his photographs. He was a member of the Light & Lens Club in Centralia and a board member of the Centralia Cultural Society. He was a member and past president of the the Centralia Jaycees and was named the Jaycee International Senator in 1977. He was a charter member of the Southern Illinois JEEP Association. He was previously a Centralia City councilman for eight years and served as chairman of the Centralia Halloween Parade. He was named as one of the 10 "Outstanding Young People in Illinois" in 1980. He graduated with honors from the Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago in 1969, and attended Kaskaskia College in Centralia from 1967 to 1968. He also graduated from the Ray Vogue School of Photography in Chicago in 1967 and Champaign High School in Champaign in 1966. He has lived most of his life in Centralia. Mr. Luer was a partner of Flawless Fotos with his son Nicholaus, and daughter-in-law Jennifer. He retired on Dec. 31, 2010, as a membership sales representative from Air Evac Lifeteam. He previously was employed as an interstate sales representative for Motorola Inc., and formerly was an insurance agent with the Justice-Luer Insurance Agency for 16 years. Earlier in life, he was a family funeral director and embalmer for the Luer Funeral Home in Centralia from 1970 until 1981. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the St. Peter United Church of Christ in Centralia with the Rev. Lisa Hart officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Mt. Vernon. Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Styninger Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at 11 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Luer's honor to the St. Peter United Church of Christ Mission Board for the Dubois Center, and will be received at the Styninger Queen~Boggs Funeral Home.
