MT. VERNON - Joan M. Spotanski, 72, of Mt. Vernon, died 6:21 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was born Sunday, July 31, 1938, in Chicago, the daughter of Michael and Frances (Walkowiak) Skorch. She married Richard Spotanski at St. Charles Catholic Church in Dubois on April 19, 1958; he survives in Mt. Vernon. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Michael Spotanski and wife Juanita of Troy, David Spotanski and wife Sharon of Troy and Steven Spotanski of Troy and fiancé Stacy Fradelos of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, Matthew Spotanski and wife Brittany of Granite City, Elizabeth Spotanski of Troy, Bradley Spotanski of Troy, Erin Spotanski of Lebanon and fiancé Joshua Strausbaugh of Shiloh, Jonathan Spotanski of Troy and James Spotanski of Troy; a great-grandchild, Benjamin Spotanski of Granite City; a brother, David Skorch and wife Laura of Mt. Vernon; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Hiller and husband Sam of Tamaroa. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Martin Skorch. Joan was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with the girls at Curves for Women. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon with Father John Iffert officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. A Rosary service will follow the visitation.
