James H. Galiher, 78, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 10:40 A.M. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at his home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Galiher was born on Friday, April 15, 1932 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois the son of the late Herschel Woodrow "Slim" and Dorothy (Senkint) Galiher. He married Patty Newbury on November 9, 1974 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and she preceded him in death on March 4, 2007. Surviving family members include his daughter: Angela Galiher of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; brother: Carl Galiher and wife Nora of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 9 sisters: Joann Fuller and husband Dean of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Shirley Bodine of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Mary Capps of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Sharon Biggs of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Ruth Davis and husband James of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Carol Webb and husband Ricky of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Joyce Wade and husband Clint of Dahlgren, Illinois, Vickie Porter and husband David of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Doris Ozee and husband Ron of Chickasha, Oklahoma; special dog pal: "Wilson" of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents, wife, one sister: Alice Sweetin, two brothers: Donald and Jackie Galiher, son: James Woodrow Galiher and his stepfather: Henry Peacock preceded him in death. James was a carpenter for the Central Labor Union and was of the Baptist faith. In honor of his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
