James "Jim" Leland Rector, age 87, of Dover, Arkansas died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Legacy Lodge Nursing Home in Russellville, Ark. He was the son of James Alfred and Florence (Chambliss) Rector, born May 10, 1923, in Mount Vernon, Ill. He was first married to Abcjean "BC" Burkett and later married Rita Hamlin. On Sept. 17, 1990 in Russellville, Ark. he married Catherine "Cathy" Christopher and she survives. Other surviving family members include son Jimmy Rector and wife, Pam, of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter Debbie Trujillo and husband, Steve, of Dover, Ark.; and daughter LeDon Kelley of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Jolene Sorkin, Angel Trujillo, Christian Trujillo, Andrea Rector, Bryant Patrick Kelley II, Brandi Kelley and Krystal Kelley; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carol Lee Rector of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews, including James Rector of Mt. Vernon; Lois (Karch) Bodine of Spearsville, Louisiana; Connie (McDaniel) Helmer of Daytona Beach, Fla.; Carla (Isaac) Page of Mt. Vernon; Johnny Karch of Mt. Vernon; Jeff Rector of Sesser; Tom Rector of Altamont; Cheryl (Rector) Jones of Mt. Vernon; Karen (Rector) MacEachern of Mt. Vernon; Donnie Karch of Mt. Vernon; Julie (Rector) Marlin of Nashville, Tenn.; Danny Rector of Orlando, Fla.; and Darin Karch of Spearsville, Louisiana. Mr. Rector was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Emily Sorkin; seven sisters and brothers: Aline Rodgers, Harold, Alva "Ab" and Glen Rector, Mamie Karch Schmittler, Glenna Isaac and Maxine McDaniel; one niece, Carol Sue Karch of Mt. Vernon; one nephew, Harold Wayne Rector of Mt. Vernon; and his second wife, Rita (Hamlin) Rector Pijut. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He made both combat jumps with the 11th Airborne at Tagyatay Ridge and Luzon and one amphibious landing at Leyte. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Rogers-Rye Post #2238, Disabled American Veterans and the American Airborne Association. He was a neon specialist and owned Jimâ?Ts Neon Signs in Tucson, Ariz. and Dover, Ark A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 at Humphrey Chapel in Russellville, Ark. Arrangements are under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service, Russellville, Ark. Full military honors will be provided by Rogers-Rye VFW Post #2238.
