DU QUOIN -- Alice D. "Pat" Wilks, 91, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, in Fair View Nursing Center in Du Quoin. Pat was a homemaker and had worked as a clerk at Bianco Drug Store in Du Quoin for 22 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Du Quoin for more than 63 years, being one of the oldest members of the church. Pat had been a member of the church choir. She was a member of Crusaders Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women and the church nursing home ministry. And she loved to cook. She was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Sunfield, the daughter of Lester and Fleta (Terry) Morris. Pat married William A. "Bill" Wilks on Oct. 2, 1942, in Sunfield, and he preceded her in death Nov. 15, 1999. Survivors include a daughter, Janet Kirk and husband, Danny, of Du Quoin; son, Joe Gene Wilks and wife, Darla, of Mount Vernon; sister, Marge Schenk and husband, Roger, of Du Quoin; four grandchildren, William J. Wilks, Jonathan Wilks, Sarah Kirk, Amanda and Heather Kirk; two brothers-in-law. Kenneth Stockton and Kenneth Bird; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Morris and Phyllis Morris Blanchard; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Helen Pierce and Frances Bird; two brothers, Joe Morris and Gene Morris; one sister in infancy, Carol Marie Morris; and sister-in-law, Nina Stockton. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, in Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Michael Ebersohl officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
