Sherman Bullock, Jr., 85, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 10:18 P.M. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at White Oak Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Bullock was born on Saturday, February 7, 1925 in Jefferson County, Illinois the son of the late David Sherman, Sr. and Altha (Dixon) Bullock. He married Esther R. Owens on August 4, 1947 in Benton, Illinois. Surviving family members include his wife: Esther R. Bullock of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; son: Gary L. Bullock and wife Debra of St. James, Missouri; 2 grandchildren: Anne Bullock Crousore and husband Josiah of Columbia, Missouri and Fred Bullock and wife Amanda of Owensville, Missouri; 2 brothers: Joe Frank Bullock of Woodlawn, Illinois and Jerry Bullock and wife Vickie of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents, one sister: Mary Lou Moore, seven brothers: Max, Jackie, Ralph, James Russell and William Robert Bullock and twin infant brothers preceded him in death. Sherman was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II who served from April 1943 to March 1946; he later worked at General Radiator in Mt. Vernon and was a Police Magistrate. He was also a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon and Masonic Lodge #31 A.F. & A.M. VISITATION: will be held from 5 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. FUNERAL SERVICES: will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 7, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Reverend Chuck Ellis will officiate. INTERMENT: Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
