    3. The Mt. Vernon Register-News, Monday, July 29, 1974 Eunice Decker Pittsfield Mrs. Eunice Decker, 83, Pittsfield, a former Mt. Vernon resident, died at 4:50 p.m. Saturday at the Pittsfield Nursing Center. She was the retired owner of a retail store in Sparta. Funeral services will be held at l p.m. Tuesday at Myers Chapel, with the Rev. Howard Rowe officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. today. Born in Litchfield on May 8,1891, she was the daughter of Isaac T. and Jenny (Howell) Decker. She is survived by a brother, Howell Decker, of Pittsfield; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Maude Decker, of Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Cecil Decker, of Granite City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

    3. Note: death records for several children lists his wife as Maude Gerard and Maude Vern Gerard. The Mt. Vernon Register-News, Tuesday, August 17, 1965 John T. Decker, 79, Dies; Leaves 67 Descendants John Taylor Decker, 79, of 1117 south 12th street, died at 7:00 p.m. Monday in Good Samaritan Hospital. He leaves 67 descendants: three sons, three daughters, 28 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren. Mr. Decker, a past president of the Carmen's Association, was a former gang lender in the air brake section of the Mt. Vernon car shops. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the First Church of God, of which he was a member, with the Rev. Siebert officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. At noon, Thursday, the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour. Mr. Decker was born May 29, 1886, at Litchfield, Ill., the son of Isaac and Jennie (Howell) Decker. On Feb. 6, 1906, in Mt. Vernon, he was married to Maude Vern, (sic) who survives. He is also survived by three sons, Frank T. Decker of St. Louis, Harry Decker of Mattoon, and Robert Decker of McLeansboro; three daughters, Mrs. Virginia Byers of Alta Loma, Calif., Mrs. Annetta Hayes of Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Jean Flanagan of Ft. Myers, Fla.: 28 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eunice Decker of Sparta; and two brothers, Virgil Decker of Glen Carbon, Ill., and Howell Decker of St. Louis. Mr. Decker was preceded in death by four sons, three daughters, and two sisters.

Johnson, 100, of Manteno, passed away Friday (Sept. 12, 2014) at Presence St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee.She was born March 30, 1914, in Ina, the daughter of Lee and Stella Legan (LEGION) Rice. She married Guy Johnson. Surviving are a daughter, Karen Howdeshell, of Kankakee; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren. Norma was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two daughters, Ruth Ann Johnson and Donna Sue Mester; one son, Glenn Edward Johnson; grandson, Guy Smith; great-granddaughter, Misty Fritz; and all of her brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Macedonia Cemetery in Macedonia.

    3. Her sister Flora, I have 1900 for her birth year and her marker says 1901, think this a family that did not know what was going on or changed it to suit themselves. Ok, so I found Joseph with his parents in 1900 census in Farrington Twp, JCI and found his parents marriage too: Illinois Statewide Marriage Index DAVIS, JOSEPH MUIR, MARY E 1872-11-29 00D 0214 SHELBY Date of the marriage fits with the number of years they say they have been married in the 1900 census. It does not appear this Davis family is connected to my Davis family from Surry Co, NC.     3. Richard C. Hawkins age 89, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at his home in Trenton. Richard was born March 3, 1925 in Mt. Vernon, IL a son of Elmer John and Ruby Mae (Richards) Hawkins. He married Evelyn G. Breedlove December 11, 1945 and she preceded him in death on November 7, 2006. Richard joined the Marines to fight for his country in WWII serving from August 20, 1943 to November 19, 1945. Upon returning from the war he met Evelyn, and evidently it was love at first sight as they were married 3 weeks later. He had worked for the car shops in Mt. Vernon, the Chevrolet Car plant in St. Louis, Lays Welding in Mt. Vernon, Taylor Bros in Tamaroa, and for the majority of his work life, coal mine construction for Bollheimer Construction, and Roberts & Schaefer Co. Richard was well known for his Santa look-alike appearance and represented Santa for more than 30 years at schools, clubs, malls and the last couple of years at Trenton Village Assisted living for the local daycares. He is survived by his three daughters, Judy A. Riggs, Shirley M. Muggleston both of Concord, California and T. Diane Woltering and husband Dennis of Aviston, Illinois; son, Michael W. Hawkins and wife Leslie of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren Billie Jean Riggs, Timothy Riggs, Jason Hawkins, Destin Hawkins, Travis Hill, and Richard W. Hawkins; three step-grandchildren, Jeff (Nancy) Woltering, Shelly (Tom) Albers, and Matt (Amy) Woltering; six great-grandchildren, Heather Riggs, Brock Woltering, Kaitlyn Albers, Kaylee Albers, Shawn Albers, Hannah Woltering and one on the way; siblings, Elmer Hawkins Jr. of Daytona Beach, Florida, Betty Wallace of Sioux Falls, SD, Nancy Gunn of Freeport, Maine, and Larry (Kay) Hawkins of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Darla J. Hawkins; granddaughter, Misty R. Hawkins; great-granddaughter, Alyssa L. Woltering; and a sister, Juanita Adams. Memorial Service and Military Flag presentation for Richard C. Hawkins will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the American Legion Post 141 Chaplain Ernie Collins officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Vernon Register-News September 18, 2014 6:00 am Foster Leroy Marlow was born Nov. 10, 1925 and died Sept. 11, 2014. “A man who works with his hands is a laborer. A man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman. A man who works with his hands, his brain and his heart is an artist.” - Louis Nizer The artist with the big heart and wondrous sense of humor has passed away. As he passed our way we were enriched and enlightened from walking with him. Along his journey he wore many hats: friend; rancher; retired professor emeritus; art department chair; instructor of college and university art, design, crafts, art history and elementary education certifying instructor; author and coauthor of art books and magazine articles; film strip, magazine editor, and reviewer; art teacher for high school, junior high and art supervisor for elementary schools; elementary school principal; pastor; father; husband; sailor; farm boy; and a lifetime student of life. His artistic media included painting, ceramics, welded sculpture, jewelry, print making, commercial art and many crafts. His early work included commercial and church murals and baptisteries. His creative works were displayed in many types of art exhibitions and as commissioned pieces. He is survived by brother, Logan Marlow; sister, Freda Shinkle; sons, Stephen and Mark Marlow; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
