He was born on Tuesday, April 17, 1973 in Mount Vernon, Illinois, son of Lena (Capps) Rainwater and the late Richard Rainwater. He married Tammy Wilson on September 11, 1998 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Along with his wife Tammy, he is survived by two Puppy Children: â?oMercedesâ? age 8 and â?oBearâ? age 7, both of Mount Vernon, Illinois; â?oBirdie Birdieâ? age 2 also of Mount Vernon, Illinois; his Mother & Stepfather: Lena & Richard Mays of Belle Rive, Illinois; two Brothers: Ricky Mays and wife Cyndi of Benton, Illinois and Kevin Rainwater and wife Jaime of Belle Rive, Illinois; two Sisters: Erin Van Matre and husband Anthony of Goreville, Illinois and Rachel Johnson and Brian Cole of Belle Rive, Illinois; four Nieces: Katelyn, Brianna and Chloe Rainwater of Belle Rive, Illinois and Jasmine Szarek of Woodlawn, Illinois; two Nephews: Jonathan Lewelen of Dahlgren, Illinois and Davey Wilson of Texico, Illinois; Mother-In-Law & Father-In-Law: Carl & Linda Wilson of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Brother-In-Law: David Wilson and fiancée Tammy Artman of Dahlgren, Illinois. Richie worked as a Yardman at East Side Lumber and Associated Lumber Companies in Mount Vernon until his health would no longer allow. On Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at 5 p.m., Sharna (Withrow) Angel and Alex Rawls were united in marriage in a private ceremony officiated by the Rev. Tim Coonce. The ceremony took place at the family lake near where the couple now reside in Wayne City. Jenna Kidd and Nick Schlag, close friends of Sharna and Alex, were asked by the couple to witness their exchange of vows. Sharna is the daughter of Sonja and Delmar Shorb of Belle Rive and Versil and Sharon Withrow of Missouri. Alex is the son of Larry and Mary Rawls of Dahlgren. Sharna and Alex are planning a family and friends celebration later this fall at their home.
Mary Louise Draper Reed, 87, of Keenes, passed away at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at her home. She was born in Mt. Vernon on Sept. 7, 1923, a daughter of Rex and Chloe (Loge) Draper. She married George Reed, and they were married for 69 years prior to her passing. She worked at the Wayne City Garment Factory. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Archie Sanders Chapel at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. Mrs. Reed is survived by her husband, George Reed of Keenes; a daughter, Marlyn (Phillip) Clark of Keenes; a son, Larry (Delene) Reed of Keenes; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Arnold of Wayne City; and a brother, Gene Draper of St. Charles, Mo. MT. VERNON - Clyde N. Beckham, age 86, of Huntingburg, Ind., passed away at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at the Professional Care Rehabilitation Center in Dale, Ind. He was born March 14, 1924, in Cuba to Newman and Nellie (Grigsby) Beckham. He was united in marriage to Dorothy L. Bean on Dec. 14, 1945, in Morganfield, Ky. Clyde was a truck driver for 42 years and retired as a driver for Matlack, Inc. in Owensboro, Ky. He was a member of the Central Christian Church in Huntingburg and served as a staff sergeant in the United States Army from 1943-47 during World War II. He was preceded in death by one son, John David Beckham; one daughter, Judith Ann Pfaff; and two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy L. Beckham of Huntingburg, Ind.; three brothers, Keith Beckham of Mt. Vernon, Charles Beckham of Mt. Vernon and Arthur Beckham of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Ruth Ann Buford of Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Clyde Beckham will be held at 10 a.m. eastern time (9 a.m. central time) Saturday at the Central Christian Church in Huntingburg, Ind. Brother Jim Petty and Brother Paul Newland will officiate the service. Peggy J. Squibb SPRINGFIELD - Peggy J. Squibb, 68, of Springfield, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center at 6:46 p.m. She was born April 14, 1942 in Centralia, to Roy and Irma Schweitzer Garison who preceded her in death. Following graduation from SIU-C, Peggy taught elementary school in Mt. Vernon school district. When her children were young, she was a devoted stay-at-home mother. She then worked at Bergner's, served as the Executive Director of the Parent Place, and retired from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. She was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church. Peggy enjoyed knitting, reading, and decorating. She had a life-long passion in child advocacy and abuse prevention. Peggy is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Jayne) Squibb, of Chatham, Bradley (Dawn) Squibb of Highlands Ranch, CO, Mark (Charlotte) Squibb of Dayton, OH, and Susan Squibb of Boulder, CO; Peggy doted over her grandchildren Maclin, Janek, Cainan, Royal, Bailey, Hayden, and Paige Squibb. MT. VERNON - Loyd W. Cameron, 75, of Pooler, Ga., formerly of Boyd and Mt. Vernon, passed peacefully at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center near Savannah, Ga., on Oct. 17, 2010, at 3:25 p.m. He was born in Greene County, Ark., on Aug. 10, 1935, to Charles and Mamie Cameron. He grew up in the Portageville, Mo. He married Joan (Easton) Cameron on Oct. 26, 1963. He served in the U. S. Air Force for 12 years before retiring from Burlington Northern Railroad with 27 years of service. He was also a member of the Assemblies of God Church. He is survived by his wife, Joan Cameron; daughter, Tammy Lanaeé Cameron-Walker; son-in-law, Jeffrey T. Walker; sisters, Martha Flynn of Portageville and Winona Doyle of California; and brother J. T. Ignatz had worked for 30 years for General Motors as a wet sander at the Fisher Body plant in St. Louis. He was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois. He was a private first class in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. Ignatz was born July 28, 1928, at Du Bois, the son of Ignatz and Rose (Musial) Szperra Sr. He is survived by a brother, Gene Szperra and wife Janice of Springfield; two sisters, Rose Marie Funk and husband Michael Leary of Buena Park, California, and Darlene Niekrenz and husband Larry of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ernest Szperra; and sister, Eleanor Zelasko. Malcolm Hirons, 91, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 1:10 P.M. on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Hirons was born on Monday, February 10, 1919 in Waltonville, Illinois the son of the late Aud Hirons, Sr. and Meda (Norris) Hirons. He married Rose P. Page on May 5, 1947 in Piggot, Arkansas. Surviving family members include his wife: Rose Hirons of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 5 children: James Hirons and wife Karen of Marion, Iowa, Meda Thompson and husband Neil "Rusty" of Bolingbrook, Illinois, Debra Mescher and husband Steve of Vincennes, Indiana, Jill Lang and husband Robert of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois and Bonnie Jones and husband Tony of Panama City, Florida; 7 grandchildren: Stacy Baker and husband Dan of Commerce City, Colorado, Michael Hirons and wife Leslie of Johnston, Iowa, Tom Hirons of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Alyson Thompson of Champaign, Illinois, Kathryn Bergthold and husband Derek of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Christine Mescher of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Jennifer Lang of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois; great granddaughter: Rebekah Baker of Commerce City, Colorado; sister: Roberta Frick of Waltonville, Illinois; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents, two brothers: Aud "Jiggs" Hirons, Jr., and O.P. Hirons and one sister: Alberta Martin preceded him in death. Malcolm was a product tester at Starr Brothers before enlisting for military service prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor and as a Master Sergeant Radioman with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II; he retired after 30 years of employment with Dowzer Electric as Field Supervisor and pilot; he was instrumental in incorporating the Summersville Community into the Mt. Vernon city limits and utilizing his piloting talent, he assisted in the expansion of Rend Lake. He was Executive Director for the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce for over eight years and received the Lambert Steffens Award through the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce; was Executive Director for the Homebuilders Association, was a Republican precinct committeeman and Mt. Vernon Township trustee, was a 50 year member and past president of the Lions Club, a member of Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge #31 A.F. & A.M. and the Jefferson County Shrine Club, Ainad Temple of East St. Louis, Turner Roehm AMVETS Post #4, Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge 819, the Summersville School Board, was a charter member of the Sweet Corn & Watermelon Festival board, was a member of Central Christian Church and was a church bus driver for 20 years, served as liaison for the Boy Scout Troop and he was recipient of the Jefferson County All-Stars of 2004.
