Jimmy Dean Hawkins, 71, of Cordova, Tenn., passed away Nov. 1, 2010. Jimmy was born in Iuka and lived most of his life in the Memphis area. He was a graduate of Salem Community High School and went on to graduate from Memphis State University with a B.S. in engineering. He was a talented artist and craftsman who made his living in the engineering field. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Carmen Hawkins; six children, Deena Scroggins, Dana Crislip, Kelli Condoure, James Christopher Hawkins, Silvana Mujaes and Jorge Mujaes; and seven grandchildren. Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Doudera; father, Pavey Hawkins; brother, Jerry Hawkins; and sister, Hyla Jane Dobbs, recently deceased on Sept. 2, 2010. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, followed by services at 2 p.m. at Donoho Prairie Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be sent to the Donoho Prairie Christian Church Cemetery and will be accepted by L. R. Osborn & Son Funeral Home of Kell.

Mr. Withrow was born on Wednesday, October 25, 1922 in Wayne County, Illinois the son of the late Harry and Alice (Porter) Withrow. Ruth was born on Tuesday, January 15, 1924 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson "Jack" and Nellie Mae (Wheeler) Black. She married Kenneth Dowdell on October 18, 1942 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and he preceded her in death on May 17, 1993. Surviving family members include her 4 daughters: Jean Bailey and husband Jerry of Woodlawn, Illinois, Marilyn Kay Williams of Woodlawn, Illinois, Jacqueline sue Starmann of Joliet, Illinois and Virginia Dowdell of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 2 brothers: Kenneth Black and wife Shirley of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Ray Black and wife Joan of Mt. Mrs. Helen (Liszewski) Sherman, age 84, of Du Bois, passed away at the St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at 4:44 p.m. Mrs. Sherman was born on April 18, 1926, in Sheridan, Ark., the daughter of Dave and Frances (Skorczewski) Liszewski. She was united in marriage to Clarence Sherman on June 25, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo. and to this union three children were born. She was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in DuBois, where she served as Eucharistic Minister. Helen was also a member of St. Theresa Altar Sodality and the Catholic Daughters of America. In addition to spending time with her family, kids and grandkids, she enjoyed playing bingo and trips to various casinos with her friends. She is survived by her husband, Clarence Sherman of DuBois; two sons, Ralph Sherman and wife Debbie of St. Louis, Mo. and Michael Sherman of Canton, Ohio; a son-in-law, Tim Ferguson of Centralia; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relations and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Kathy Ferguson; and two sisters, Bertha Kozuszek and Barbara Lesko. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in DuBois on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Oliver Nwachukwu officiating. MT. VERNON - Deloris B. Howard, 91, of Mt. Vernon, died at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon. She was born on Oct. 11, 1919, in Tamms, the daughter of William H. Powless and Altha (Lawrence) Powless. She married Charles O. Howard on Sept. 11, 1937, in Mayfield, Ky., and he preceded her in death on May 26, 1995. She is survived by two sons, Ronald E. Howard and wife Sharon of Mt. Vernon and Larry W. Howard of Loretto, Pa.; two grandchildren, Brenda Ogborn and husband Carey of Bloomington, Ind., and Brent Howard of Mt. Vernon; three great-grandchildren, Natalie Ogborn Lin and husband Mike of Indianapolis, Drew Ogborn of Bloomington and Jamie Howard of Sims; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Everett Powless; and three sisters, Mary Ward, Goldie McCullough and Velma Phillips. Deloris worked for 28 years for the State of Illinois Department of Labor as a supervisor of claims. She was of the Protestant faith and was a member of the Women of the Moose, AMVETS Auxiliary, American Legion Post 141 Auxiliary, VFW Post 1365 Auxiliary, Ladies of the Elks and Mt. Vernon Gun and Sportsman's Club. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn with the Rev. William Causer officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Richard Ora Mann, 81, of Robinson, died at 11:40 a.m. Oct. 27, 2010, at the Cotillion Ridge Nursing Center. He was born on Nov. 9, 1928, in Robinson, the son of Clarence Everett Mann and Ethel Gladys Sleeth Mann. He was an insurance adjuster, working for over 35 years in the insurance business and managed his family farm. He married Carol Phillippe on Oct. 7, 1951, and she survives. He is also survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger Alan and Judy Mann of Salem and Gary Dale and Lesa Mann of Mt. Vernon; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Denise and Dan Morris of Fairfield, Ohio, and Sandy Jean Jones of Chatham; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, David Lee Mann; and his two brothers, Ralph W. Mann and Walter S. Mann. MT. VERNON - David Warren Conner, 49, of Chicago, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at 7:20 p.m. at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago. A small family visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Conner was born Oct. 27, 1961, the son of Harold and Mary Conner. He had a cleaning business and performed various Internet research projects. He also loved recording country music and sending CDs to many family members, whom he loved dearly. Survivors include his father and mother, Harold and Mary Conner of Bethalto; sisters, Tammy Donald of Holly Springs, Miss., and Tammy Webb of Wahiawa, Hawaii; a brother, Larry Franklin of Yucaipa, Calif.; grandmother Lucille Heiens of Bluford; two very special aunts, Ruth Randall of Bluford and Deborah Guinn of Fredricktown, Mo.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Also surviving here on this earth is David's life partner and soul mate, Thomas Rooney of Chicago. Preceeding in David's death was a sister, Mary Elizabeth Farrell, whom he considered his heavely guardian angel; brother, Denzel Harold Conner; grandmother, Arough Logsdon; two grandfathers, Roy Tellor and James Heiens; and also grandparents Denzel and Dorthy Conner. Charles H. "Beaver" Mossberger, 83, formerly of Enfield, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at the home of his daughter, Roxanna Lamp, in Mt. Vernon. He was born Jan. 6, 1927, in Waltonville, the son of Charles Harvey and Jessie (Hart) Mossberger. He was married to Vivian (Cozart) Mossberger on Nov. 26, 1950, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 19, 2004. Beaver was a retired minister and served several churches in the Southern Illinois area, as well as in Florida for 15 years when he spent winters there. He was a World War II Army veteran. He enjoyed fishing and anything having to do with nature. Survivors include his daughter, Roxanna Lamp and her husband Rick of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Kelly Kelsheimer and Erica Summers; niece Sally Hart; and nephews Bret Brown and Mike Bleeks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jessie Mossberger; and his wife, Vivian Mossberger. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Enfield Christian Church in Enfield. Burial with military rites will be in Enfield Cemetery in Enfield. McLEANSBORO - Scotty Lee Cannon, 39, of Walnut Hill and formerly of McLeansboro, died at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at his home. He was born on March 12, 1971, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Jerry Cannon and Gloria (Wellen) Meschnark. He married Wendy Palmer and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father, Jerry and wife Kathy of McLeansboro; his mother, Gloria Meschnark and husband Glenn of McLeansboro; a son, Cheylo Cannon of Walnut Hill; a daughter, Daryian Cannon of Walnut Hill; a sister, Ronda Rodgers of McLeansboro; and two brothers, Jason Cannon of Norris City and Jerrod Cannon of Omaha. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Larry York; and his grandparents, Herman and Mary Wellen and Herschel and Hazel Cannon.
