Gene and Joann Frick will be celebrating 60 years of marriage on Jan. 20. Gene is the son of the late John and Flora Frick. Joann is the daughter of the late Joe and Maudie Lappin. They have two children, Sherry Frick of Mt. Vernon and Darrell and Joyce Frick of Woodlawn. Their grandchildren are Jeff and Denise Liggett of Radom, Greg and Shelly Liggett of Alma, Lee and Michelle Liggett of Carlyle, Jacob Gene and Jennifer Frick of Woodlawn, Josch Frick of Herrin, Jorden Frick of Woodlawn and Jonah Beth Frick of Mt. Vernon. Their great-grandchildren are Jennifer, Lane, Joseph, Gage, Coye, Heather, Breanne, Isabell, Tyson Gene and Masie. They have two step great-grandchildren, Carley and Dougie.

Gene Pickett, 91, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 6:18 P.M. on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at White Oak Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Pickett was born on Saturday, July 19, 1919 in Jefferson County, Illinois the son of the late Barney and Pearl (Peyton) Pickett Jones. He married Ida Ghnell Pierce in Marion County, Illinois on April 10, 1948. Surviving family members include his wife of 62 years: Ghnell Pickett of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; brothers-in-law: Wilbert Pierce of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Calvin Pierce and wife Rena of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; sister-in-law: Wilma Campbell of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents and his three sisters: Doris Iva Shields, Esterleigh Buttrum and Jeweldine Whittington preceded him in death. Gene volunteered for military service and was very proud of his four years serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war he worked in the parts department for Holman Motors in Mt. Vernon and later owned and operated Fire Safety, Sales and Service in Mt. Vernon until retirement at age 68. He was also a member of the Methodist Faith. VISITATION: will be held from 5 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mae Maurine Wright, age 86, of Scheller, IL., passed away 1:50 a.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at her home in Scheller, IL. Mae was born August 9, 1924 in Scheller, IL., the daughter of Benjamin Blaine and Minnie Bell (Fleming) Laur. She first married William "Pete" Dixon and he was killed during WWII. She then married Joseph Kelley Wright on June 3, 1949 and he preceded her in death on May 14, 2003. Mrs. Wright was a homemaker and attended the United Methodist Church of Waltonville. Mae is survived by three sons, Jerry Wright and special friend Mary Rose of Mt. Vernon, Randy Wright and wife Hilda of Mt. Perry Clinton Warren, 90, of Elkville, passed away at 1:55 P.M., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Perry had been a supervisor for FritoLay Company for several years. He was an agent for AAA Insurance. He was Elk Township board member and Elk Township Tax Assessor. Perry was a member of the Elkville United Methodist Church, where he had been a past treasurer. He was secretary and treasurer of the ministerial alliance. He was a board member of the Rick Warren Library Board in Elkville. He was a member of the Elkville Crimestoppers, and a member of the Murphysboro American Legion. Perry served his country in the US Army during World War II. He was born March 17, 1920 at Carmi, IL, the son of Bernard L. and Mildred (Weirauch) Warren. Perry married Marie L. Clipson on May 24, 1944 at Kattering, England and she preceded him in death on December 23, 2002. He is survived by a brother- John Warren and wife Judy of Mt. John W. Clark, 85, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Mt. Vernon Health Care Center. He was born Aug. 13, 1925, in McLeansboro, the son of James and Elma Jane (Webb) Clark. John was a statastician and was employed by Unocal Corporation. He attended West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon. He was a past member of the Mt. Vernon Rotary Club and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Clark is survived by a daughter, Gay Lee Hintz and husband Scott; three grandsons, Matthew, Aaron and Christopher Hintz; a sister, Anna Faye Capps and husband Arthur of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Donald Dean Clark of Harrison, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Larry Kent and Stephen Gary Clark. Gordon was born Sept. 9, 1939, at Villa Ridge, the son of the late James L. Windings and Lorene (Edwards) Windings. Gordon was an active member of the American Legion Post 178 of Villa Ridge and a lifetime member of the Cairo VFW Post 2649. He served his country in the Vietnam War and retired of 22 years from the State of Illinois Department of Unemployment Security. He also retired after 22 years from the Air Force receiving the following medals: Air Force Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He played USA softball in Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his parents. Gordon married the former Sherry Russell on Dec. 27, 1959. Eugene â?oGeneâ? Malcolm Wells, 85, of Waltonville, Ill., passed away at 1:03 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2011 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease and a heart condition. He married Betty Ruth Baker on April 27, 1946 at Mt. Vernon and she survives. Mr. Wells is also survived by two daughters, Catheryn (Eugene) Stanford of Woodlawn and Janice Senftleber of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; four grandsons, David (Jennifer) Senftleber of Houston, Texas, Gene (Emily) Stanford of Joliet, Michael (Katherine) Senftleber of Austin, Texas, Ryan (Trisha) Stanford of Woodlawn; two granddaughters, Samantha Stanford of Shiloh and Amy Senftleber of Jacksonville, Florida; seven great grandchildren; Colin Senftleber, Isabella Stanford, Lily Stanford, twins-Isaac and Aaron Senftleber, Claire Senftleber and Vivienne Stanford; an aunt, Hazel Warner and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He was born on December 23, 1925 in McClellan Township, Illinois, to Alva L. and Rebah (Stewart) Wells. At age two Gene's mother passed away leaving him to be raised by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Hessie Stewart. Gene graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School, Southern Illinois University where he received his Bachelors and Masters Degree. He attended the University of the South in Sewanee, TN, Lincoln College of Law, Springfield, IL, Oxford and Cambridge Universities in London, England. Gene served in the Navy from 1943 till 1946. He taught school in Jefferson County for 11 years. He owned and operated Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens and Tel Aviv Farms. Gene traveled to over 100 foreign countries and loved sharing his experiences with people. The "Bear of Tel Aviv" served on the Jefferson County Board from November 1976 till December 1984 and again from November 1988 till December 1992. During his tenure on the County Board, he served as Chairman from 1982 to 1984 and again from 1990 to 1992. VISITATION will be from 5 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, January 21, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 1:00 P.M. He owned and operated Culligan Water Conditioning from 1978 until retiring in 1998. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a member of the Monmouth Kiwanis Club, Viola Masonic Lodge 577 and the Scottish Rite Chapter of Moline. He is survived by his wife, Jean; one daughter, Lisa (Danny) Mettler of Monmouth; four grandchildren, Robbie Hiett, Heather Hiett, Allison Hiett and Eric Hiett; one sister, Dorothy Birkhead of Viola; one brother, Roger (Rachel) Birkhead of Viola; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Birkhead of East Moline; along with numerous nieces and nephews. William "Bill" Nagel, 62, of Yuma, Arizona passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at a hospital in Tucson. Bill was born on August 3, 1948 in Beaucoup the son of Evans "Shorty" and Regina (Chwascinski) Nagel. He married Martha (Thompson) Voss and she preceded him in death. Surviving family members include his mother, Regina Kraus of Okawville, Illinois; one daughter, Tesha and friend Manny Villegas of Tucson; one son, Eric of San Diego; and one sister, Laura Skorch and husband David of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Esther Thompson; Bridget Voss and family of Colorado; Vanessa Voss Gordon and family of Nashville; Darel Voss and family of rural Okawville; grandchildren and great grandchildren. He attended schools in Nashville and graduated in 1966 from Nashville Community High School. He was a US Navy Veteran.
