    3. Norma Imogene Hulbert Knappier, 83, of Benton, Ark., formerly of Mt. Vernon, passed away Feb. 11, 2011, at Saline Memorial Hospice House in Bryant, Ark. Imogene was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Mt. Vernon to parents Alva and Helen Hulbert. She was a faithful member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ and a preschool teacher at the Tuesday school, bible class teacher and a cook for Little Egypt Christian Youth Camp. Norma is survived by a son, Michal Knappier of Benton, Ark.; a daughter, Shirley Shelton of Terre Haute, Ind.; two sisters, Elinor Sanders and Glenda Strampka of Sterling ; four grandchildren, Chad Knappier, Nathan Knappier, Becca Lambert and Tadd Shelton; and eight great-grandchildren, Mark, Bailey, Caden and Jude Knappier and Duncan, Gavin, Connor and Brody Lambert. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Melvin Knappier. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ in Mt. Vernon. Chad Knappier will be officiating. Inurnment will be at the Bethel Memorial Cemetery

    3. - Helen K. Sipes, 77, of Carmi and formerly of Ina, passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born on Aug. 3, 1933, in Hopewell, Ky., the daughter of Virgil and Emma Louise (Day) Weaver. She married Elmer Sipes and he preceded her in death. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and John Oliver of Carmi; two sons, Ted Dalton of Murphysboro and Larry Dalton of Downey, Calif.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Bill and Patty Weaver of Martinsville, Ind., Bob Weaver of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Larry and Beth Weaver of Indianapolis, Ind.; a grandson, Joe Carrell of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Madison, and Gavin Carrell. She was preceded in death by a brother, Nick Weaver. Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Pastor Chad Everett officiating. Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden in Carmi. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 12:30 p.m

    3. MT. VERNON - Jack Lee Gunter, 61, of Mt. Vernon, died at 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at his home. He was born Sunday, Aug. 14, 1949, in Salem, a son of Dan O. and Katherine (Puckett) Gunter. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cisne Cemetery with the Rev. David Shores officiating. Interment will follow. There will be no visitation. Jack is survived by his adopted stepmother, Frances Whetstone of Carmi; sister, Sherry Stanford and husband Jim of Indianapolis, Ind.; uncle, Sam Puckett of Fairfield; special uncle, Leo Puckett of McLean, Va.; and special friends Mary Jo Vance and husband Norman of Bluford. He was preceded in death by his parents, adoptive parents and one sister. Jack was born to Tommie and Hazel Thompson and they passed away when Jack was very young. He was later adopted by Dan and Katherine Puckett. He attended school in Carmi, worked for Ice of Illinois since 1979 and he attended First Free Will Baptist Church.     3. Scott Anthony Maynard, 28, of Waltonville, Illinois passed away 6:55 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2011 at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Scott was born December 8, 1982 in Nashville, Illinois the son of Randy and Juliann (Piasecki) Maynard. Scott married Jennifer Frisch on October 3, 2009 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Dubois, Illinois: She survives in Waltonville. Scott was a loving husband and son. He worked at the Walgreens Distribution Center in Mt. Vernon. He was a devoted hunter and competitive fisherman, and was a member of the Perry County Bass Club. Scott was of the Catholic Faith He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Maynard of Waltonville; his parents Randy and Juliann Maynard of Dubois, IL; one brother Matt Maynard and wife Michelle of Westfield, IN; his grandmother Eva Conner of Dubois, IL; mother-in-law Brenda and husband Bob Frakes of Bonnie, IL; father -in-law Rudy Frisch and wife Bev of Scheller, IL; and sister -in-law Crystal and husband Greg Alfeldt of Oakdale, IL. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Edgar Maynard; maternal grandparents David and Nettie (Barnowski) Piasecki. Vernon, a daughter of Arthur Daniels and Effie (Cooper) Daniels. She first married James Bowdler and he preceded her in death in 1971. She then married Arvol Shehorn and he preceded her in death in 1985. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Bud Storey officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson County. Sylvia is survived by two sons, Jeff Bowdler of Brookport and James Bowdler and wife Raven of Opdyke; four daughters, Barbara Friedman and husband Terry of Mt.
