Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield, 36, of Mount Vernon, took her place on the front row of the angelic choir when she passed away unexpectedly on Monday evening, March 28, 2011, while traveling in Alexandria, Virginia. Sara was born on May 21, 1974, the daughter of Richard and Carolyn Stubblefield. She was a beloved and cherished daughter, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her parents, of Mount Vernon, one sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Ed Lobenhofer of Thousand Oaks, California, and two nephews, Kyle and Zachary Lobenhofer, who will miss their most enthusiastic and imaginative playmate. She is also survived by five aunts: Gayla Stubblefield, Jo Ann Garner and husband Richard, and Joyce Hodge and husband Kent, all of Sesser; Bette Reynolds and husband Gary of Benton; and Kathleen Sapp and husband Marvin of Columbia, MO; and one uncle, John Franklin and wife Donna of Portage, IN; as well as numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Willie and Hazel Stubblefield, John and May Fornear, and Paul Baker and Esther Baker; one aunt, one uncle, and one infant sister. Sara was a 1996 honors graduate of Greenville College, and received a Master's in Social Work from Washington University in 1998. She earned the designation of Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Sara was a fearless advocate for epilepsy education and research. She dedicated her life to making a difference for better care and treatment for people living with epilepsy. She had served for 10 years as Epilepsy Services Coordinator for the Epilepsy Foundation of Southern Illinois, and was participating in the Epilepsy Foundation of America's annual Public Policy Institute in Washington, D.C. at the time of her death. She was an active member of Woodlawn Christian Church, served ten years on the board of the Illinois YMCA Youth and Government program, was a member of the Isaac Hull chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Association of Social Workers. Friends may call between 4:00 and 8:00pm on Friday, April 1, at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, April 2, at Woodlawn Christian Church in Woodlawn, IL, with Pastor Tracy Thomas officiating. HOMESTEAD, Fla. - Duane Allen Davis, 52, of Homestead, Fla., and formerly of Papertown, went to be with his Lord on Wed., March 23, 2011, at 10:35 p.m. at hs home in Homestead, Fla. He was born on June 25, 1958, in Aurora, the son of Clarence and Nancy Tooley Davis. He is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy Kluck, married in 1976 in Centralia, and she resides in Homestead, Fla., along with three children and five grandchildren. He was the loving father of sons Sean Davis and wife Melissa of Homestead, Fla., and Michael Davis and wife Virginia of Palm City, Fla.; a daughter, Belinda Davis of Homestead, Fla.; and was the proud grandfather of Tessa Davis, Mason Davis, Riley Davis, Kyan Davis and Symara Davis, all of Homestead, Fla. He was the beloved brother of Dale Davis of Papertown, Diana Hill of Dix and Darren Davis of Dix. He was the proud owner and operator of D.A. Davis Lawn Service since 1983. He loved to camp and enjoyed boating and fishing on the ocean. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Private funeral services were held in Homestead, Fla. Duane was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed but he will be forever in our hearts.

MT. VERNON - Roselee Lease was born on August 12, 1934, daughter of Frank and Lillian Nickrent. She passed away at the age of 76 on March 26, 2011. Roselee accepted Christ as her savior, being baptized in April of 1964 at First Baptist in Vienna, Mo. She is survived by two children, Frankie Lease of Licking, Mo., and Lucetta Stagner and husband Clarence of Licking, Mo.; two grandchildren, Timothy Stagner of Pollock, La., and Robert Stagner and wife Tiffany of Farmington, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Kodi Arnold of Licking, Mo., and Draegon Stagner of Farmington, Mo.; one brother, Leonard Nickrent and wife Laverne of St. Louis; five sisters, Ester Bocktain of Mt. Vernon, Dorthy Szarwinski of Woodlawn, Barbara Parrot and husband Robert of Woodlawn, Patricia Martin of St. Louis and Martina Kitowski and husband Gene of St. Louis; many nieces, nephews and friends. She enjoyed working outdoors in her yard from the many flower beds to cutting her own grass until last fall. Her true love was the making of hand-made quilts, from beginning to end, just finishing the last one in February this year for her son, before the cancer rendered her to not see. He married Eva Austin on Oct. 12, 1946, and she survives. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Wayne City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Will Dueal officiating. In addition to his wife, Mr. Gray is survived by a daughter, Bonna Levya and husband Edward of Woodlawn; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. He was a retired school teacher. He graduated from Wayne City High School and also from Southern Illinois University. He was a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge #759 and the Illinois Retired Teachers' Assocation. He was a past governor of the Lincolnland District of Ruritan International, and was on the health board, the mental health board and the Wayne-White Electric Coop. He was a member of the Wayne City United Methodist Church in Wayne City. He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II. (Dearth) Matherlee. On July 10, 1985, in Columbus, Ohio he married Julie Hart and she survives in Kell. He graduated from Xenia High School in Xenia, Ohio. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Florence Matherlee of Kell; three sons, Jamey Matherlee and wife Tammy of Indianapolis, Ind., David Lashbrook and wife Stacie of Centralia and Danny Matherlee of Miami, Fla.; two daughters, Angie Matherlee and Amy Matherlee, both of Miami, Fla.; four grandchildren, Ashlyn Lashbrook, Katie Lashbrook, Brandon Matherlee and Megan Matherlee; and a sister, Tonia Shepherd of Ohio. Russell Norris, age 98, of Waltonville, Illinois passed away 11:55 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon. Russell was born July 22, 1912 in Waltonville, Illinois a son of Joseph H. and Myrtle Elizabeth (Dodds) Norris. He married Virginia Aline Hester on October 3, 1931 in Nashville and she preceded him in death on January 25, 2000. Russell was a Coal Miner and a farmer. He served his country in the United States Army During WWII. Russell was a past commander of the Waltonville VFW Post 9153 and was one of the founders of the annual Waltonville Veterans Day Parade, which was started in 1986. Russell served many years on the Waltonville School Board and also as treasurer for the Knob Prairie Cemetery for over forty years. When rural electric service came to Waltonville Russell put the Electrical wiring in Many of the homes in the area. He was a member of the Universalist Church in Waltonville. He is survived by two sons, Jim and Marge Norris of Newburgh, Indiana and Wendell Norris and wife Beverley of Waltonville, Illinois; six grandchildren, Cathy and husband Drew Osika of Mt. Vernon, J.C. Norris and wife Arin of Newburgh, Indiana, Jordan Norris of Waltonville, Marcus Norris of Waltonville, Cassandra Quick of Waltonville and Dallas Day of Mt. Natalie Louise Chesley, 95, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 5:10 P.M. on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Mt. Vernon Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mrs. Chesley was born on October 14, 1915 in Lynn, Massachusetts the daughter of the late Hector MacKay and Louise (Harmon) MacKay. She married Gerald Chesley on November 10, 1934 in Lynn, Massachusetts. He preceded her in death after 57 years of marriage on March 28, 1992. Surviving family members include her daughter: Mary Jane Chesley of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; brother: Donald MacKay of Peabody, Massachusetts; several nieces and 1 nephew also survive. Her parents, husband, daughter: Sandra Grimm, brother: Irvin MacKay and sister: Dorothy MacKay preceded her in death. Natalie graduated from Lynn English High School and later attended nurses training at Lynn General Hospital in Lynn, Massachusetts. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Chesley Bus Service and during World War II and she worked for General Electric in Massachusetts. Natalie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon for over 50 years. She was a member of the Mt. Vernon Federated Civic Club, Mt. Vernon Women's Club and the Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge. She was a homemaker and worked part time as a school nurse for Jefferson County schools. She also worked on Angels on Assignment with the church and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and bridge player.
