Marian G. Scott, born July 5, 1926, in Mt. Vernon, peacefully passed away May 20, 2011, in Washington state at her daughter's home. Marian moved to Phoenix, Ariz., with her husband La Verne Olson in 1947, until he passed in 1978. She later married Grover Scott Jr., and they continued to reside in Phoenix until he passed in 2007. Marian maintained her home in Phoenix while spending her last years of life in Washington state with her daughter and family. Marian was very active with both Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile throughout her life. Marian will be dearly missed. A 9:30 a.m. funeral service will be held in her honor Wednesday at Green Acres Mortuary Chapel of Light, 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85257. Edward Arty Rainey, 88, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at his home in Boonville, Mo. He was born Oct. 21, 1922, to Homer M. and Lillian Howe Rainey in Mt. Vernon. He graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School in 1940 and completed Business School in St. Louis. Beginning in January of 1943, during World War II, he served in the U.S. Army for 30 years. He volunteered for parachute training and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Europe, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment. Post World War II, he served in Army Special Forces from its early days and for many years thereafter. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and the Legion of Merit. His service did not end with his retirement from the Army. He first served on the Boonville Firemen's Board, then as councilman for the Fourth Ward for four years, from 1982 to 1986. In 1986, he was elected to be mayor of Boonville and served until 1990. He was also a member of the Lions Club for over 30 years. He and Betty Moore were united in marriage on Sept. 17, 1949, in Chapel 17, Fort Bragg, N.C. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty; three sons, Bruce and his wife Sarah of Columbia, Mo., Richard and his wife Shelia of Boonville, Mo., and John and his wife Suzanne of Fenton, Mo.; two daughters, Barbara of Boonville, Mo., and Janice and her husband Mark of Hallsville, Mo.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Floyd of Columbia, Mo., Charles and his wife Minta of Salem, and Robert and his wife Shirley of Carlyle; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lois Rainey Fox and Elva Dean Rainey Suerstedt. WESLEY EUGENE YEARGIN, 79, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:00 A.M. on Monday, May 30, 2011 at White Oak Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Mount Vernon. He was born on Wednesday, September 30 1931 in Mount Vernon, Illinois, a son to the late Charles Wesley & Eliza Marjean (Storey) Yeargin. He married Shirley Hunt on April 27, 1957 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois and she survives in Mount Vernon along with two Sons: Mark Eugene Yeargin of Haubstadt, Indiana and Paul Wesley Yeargin of Long Beach, California; five Grandchildren: Rachel Ann Yeargin, Lt. Jg. Charles Wesley Yeargin, Daniel Mark Yeargin, Adam Christopher Yeargin and Grayson Paul Yeargin; Sister-In-Law: Marlene Chevalier and husband Levell of Henderson, Texas. One Niece and one Nephew also Survive. His parents and one brother: Lewis Walker Yeargin preceded him in death. Wesley served in the Korean War with the U.S. Navy from September 17, 1950 to July 16, 1954 as a technician third class with D Five Control stationed aboard the destroyer USS Hollister DD 788.
