Vernon, IL Register News - Monday, 12 September 1910 James W. CLARK, one of Mt. Vernon's best citizens, was called to his reward Sunday morning at 1:45. His age was 68, and he was born in Dodds Township, in Jefferson County. His life was spent largely, within the boundaries of the county. Mr. CLARK had been ill for several weeks, and his sickness was due to an affection of the h_____. He was stricken with paralysis which hastened the end, which came peacefully, and he passed away like one passing into a sound and restful sleep. In 1862, he answered the call of his country and enlisted in Co. I, 60th Illinois, the regiment commanded by Col. ANDERSON, and the company, under the captaincy of John GIBSON. His term of service was marked by the faithful discharge of his duty until the close of the war. He was a member of Coleman Post G.A.R. In early life Mr. CLARK was a member of the Methodist Church, but later he placed his membership in the United Brethern Church. He was twice married, to Miss Margaret CLARK, and the second to Miss Catherine TROUTT. Six children survive the father and they are Ed, of Indianapolis, Charles of Belleville, Fred, Will, Pearl and Morton, of this city. The funeral service was conducted at the residence, 1110 South Twelfth Street, Monday afternoon, September 12, and the body was laid to rest in Old Union. Rev. B. A. HOAR preached the funeral sermon. ******************************* Mary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I don't have the names of any of their daughters. My grandmother indicated that her father had eight sisters but she did not know any of their names. In the 1900 census, Hannah indicated that she had 9 children but only five were living. The census also indicated that Hannah was married to William Daniels about 1866 but I have not located a marriage record for them. That is very interesting and I appreciate your contribution, I am a great great grandson of Hannah Milburn Daniels. I have her death certificate here in front of me and I think I figured out what the problem is, It seems that her son, (my great grandfather) confused the maiden names of his two grandmothers. The first time I looked at it, I saw "Allenps" so I went with "Allen" then, I saw that another researcher read it as "Allcups" and now that I am looking at it again, I am seeing "Allsups". His paternal grandmother's maiden name was "Alsup". Are you related to this family? I found Hannah in the 1900 and 1910 census records in Jefferson Co., IL with her husband, William Daniels and in 1920 she is widowed and residing with her son, William and his family in Coles County. My grandmother was born at Coles Co., IL in 1920 and then the family moved back to Jefferson where the other children were born. Hannah's death is recorded in Wayne Co. on March 28, 1923 at ! Four Mile Twsp., listed at "Hana" but on the death certificate it appears as "Hans". It's very confusing that people had such poor grammar and spelling but gotta give them a "A" for effort. Greetings to all, As My Granny Smith used to say, "Well! I swan!" I was born "on the run" in Donovan, Iroquois Co. IL. But Salem, Marion Co. was always home until I wandered off at age 17. My families (Smith and Turner) were a very close knit group and I never heard or learned much family history. When I was about 60 and living in SW Ohio, I became interested and am still hard at it. So, I was understandably surprised to read about this marvelous Turner clan, all of whom are strangers to me. After leaving Salem I wandered to So. California, married and started a family; moved us to SW Ohio; moved to SW Indiana; and am now in SE WY to stay. I think. Would be happy to communicate with any of these Turners (or any others) if my direct line rings any bells: Me b. 6/15/1929; Dad Floyd E. Turner b. 1/15/1887 Jefferson Co, IL; his third wife/my mother Gladys Rozilla Smith b. 12/14/1903 Odin, Marion Co. IL; his father/my grandfather John William Turner b. 4/29/1842 Davidson Co. TN; his wife/my grandmother Martha L. Baldridge b. 8/8/1849 Grand Prairie Twp., Jefferson Co. IL. If you think that's a mess you oughta see my Smiths! Best regards to the whole super list! Floyd E.
