Mr. Hodge was an upright citizen, a devoted companion to his wife, who was an invalid for a long period preceding her death, and a model father. Stricken with illness last February he was unable to recover completely and complications set in which caused his demise. Impressive funeral services were conducted at the M. E. Church of which Mr. Hodge was a member, at 11 a.m. Thursday by the pastor, Rev. F. C. Brown. A large crowd was present to pay the last tribute of respect of the living for the dead. Interment was had in Knob Prairie Cemetery. Although his gravestone shows he was born in 1860, it seems more likely he was born about 1863 if these are the correct parents: Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763-1900 HODGE, JAMES C HUTSON, MARTHA 1860-08-02 002/0108 JEFFERSON 1870 census Elk Prairie Twp, Jefferson Co, IL - 1 Aug 1870 Post Office: Marcy, IL 108/101 HODGE, James 36 M W Farm Laborer TN Martha 24 F W Keeping House IL Eliza 9 F W IL Wm. 3. Most of my information came directly from my great grandma Birdie. Her father was William Alexander Hodge, son of Willis Green Hodge and Sarah Palestine Barker. William was married 4 times. His first two wives died without children. Grandma Birdie wrote journals about her life. She was an amazing woman.
