Alma Beatrice Jourdan, age 88, of Keenes, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at 9:51 a.m. in Centralia.She was born the daughter of Willie and Rosa (Branson) Sharp on Dec. 22, 1924, in Keenes. She married Charlie Jourdan Feb. 18, 1942, in Salem, and he survives.Alma is survived by three sons, Charles Jourdan, Jr. and wife Sandra of Kell, Irvin LaVerne Jourdan and wife Kayla of Marion and Bobby Jourdan and wife Norma of Iuka and three daughters, Rosetta Runyon and husband Bill of Kell, Geneva Richards and husband Lowell of Iuka and Leta Lucille Milner and husband Larry of Johnsonville. She is also survived by one brother, Norman Sharp of Alton and by one sister, Glenna Boozer of Centralia. Alma is also survived by 15 loving grandchildren; many, many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.Mrs. Jourdan was preceded in death by brothers, Leonard Sharp, Lloyd Sharp, Cloyd Sharp and Jimmie Sharp; sisters, Opal Ellis, Rosa Mae Miller and Mildred Hickey; and by eight infant brothers and sisters.Alma was a member of the Union Pentecostal Church of Iuka and worked for over 20 years at the Lear-Ziegler stove foundry in Centralia. Alma was devoted to her family and loved each child and grandchild in her own special way. She loved to cook special meals that were her children’s favorites.Funeral services for Alma Beatrice Jourdan will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the L. R. Osborn & Son Funeral Home in Kell with the Rev. Craig Smith officiating.Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.Burial will follow at the New Home Lowery Cemetery in rural Bluford.

    2. Sgt. Matthew Dean Winkler, 33, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at the Siteman Center of Barnes Jewish Hospital. He courageously fought the battle of leukemia for five months.He was born the son of Noel Dean Winkler and Mary Ellen (Oldfield) Jones on Aug. 30, 1979, in Centralia. He married Amber Helm in Salem on March 2, 2001, and she survives in Salem.In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Matthew Winkler; daughter, Chloe Winkler; mother, Mary Jones and husband Dale of Kinmundy; sister, Amanda Burge and husband Jerry of Mt. Vernon; brother, Todd Winkler and wife Chassidy of Mt. Vernon; grandmother, Joan Winkler of Sandoval; mothers-in-law and fathers-in-law, Connie and Steve Oswald of Iuka and Kenny and Penny Helm of Iuka; special aunts, Marcia Wilkins and husband Keebler of Salem and Lisa Baity and husband Jim of Salem; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father, Noel Winkler; grandfather, Barney Oldfield; grandmother, Helen Oldfield; grandfather, Don Winkler; uncle, Stephen Oldfield; aunt, Janet Morgan; cousin, Michael Jamison; and special military friend, CPL Peter Courcy.Matthew served in the United States Army from Aug. 4, 1998 to Aug. 31, 2010. He did tours of duty in Kosovo, Afghanistan and two tours of Iraq. He was a member of the Salem Moose Lodge and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. Vernon, Illinois and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1996. Surviving family members include his daughter: Martha Skorczewski and husband Charles of Nashville, Illinois; 2 sons: William Tucker and wife Vanessa of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and John Tucker of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 5 grandchildren: Bryan Skorczewski of Edwardsville, Illinois, Robert Skorczewski of Edwardsville, Illinois, Sarah Kiliman and husband Daymon of Decatur, Illinois and Michael Tucker and Allison Tucker both of Mt.     2. Lillian Louise Arendale Moore, 87, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, born January 22, 1926 in St. Louis, passed to her heavenly reward on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Countryside Manor, Mt. Vernon, Illinois.  Louise was the daughter and only child of the late Dr. Alma Lillian Arendale Moore of Mt. Vernon, St. Louis, Montana and Ohio and the late Dr. Thomas Moore of Mt. Vernon.  She was the granddaughter of the late Louie Bodine Arendale and Dr. Daniel Henry Arendale, proprietors of the Palace Hotel. Louise was lovingly cared for in her last years by the nursed at Countryside Manor, and especially by Pamela Marquis Ford of Mt. Vernon, the great granddaughter of Louise’s Great Aunt Henrietta, as well as by Jennifer Ketay Brock of New York, one of the granddaughter’s of Louise’s aunt, the late Mary Lee Arendale Williams.  Louise is survived as well by another grand daughter and three grandsons of her late aunt, Jay Keith Williams of New York, Sebastian Williams of Mamaroneck and Albertine and Nicloas Williams of France.  Louise was a talented graphic artist, having studied portraiture, photography and drawing at various schools, including the Art Student League of New York, where she lived for a year. Her greatest joy was traveling to visit friends in California and Florida; she was very proud to have been able to take two tours to Europe. She became a realtor and managed numerous properties in Jefferson County, MO accumulated by her mother. She spent ten of the happiest years of her life in South County, Missouri where she enjoyed going to the movies, shopping at Borders and eating out. Although quite disabled by arthritis in her last years at Countryside Manor, Louise delighted in news of the outside world, in following Jeopardy and the news on television, and in continuing telephone relationships with friends in Missouri, Utah and California and family in New York City.    GRAVESIDE SERVICES will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Friday, August 23, 2013 at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt.     2. Dorothy Ellen Mitchell, age 93, of Decatur, Illinois, formerly of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, died Monday, August 19, 2013 at McKinley Court Care Centre in Decatur, Illinois.  She spent the last year as a resident of Evergreen Place in Decatur, Illinois where she made wonderful friends.  Dottie was born November 17, 1919 in Waltonville, Illinois the daughter of William L. and Bertha A. (Crum) Mannen.  She became a member of Grace Methodist Church as a young girl.  She attended McKinley College in Jacksonville, Illinois.  She married Ted W. Mitchell, Sr. April 7, 1941.  He preceded her in death June 17, 1982.  Dottie travelled the country with her husband for many years working in their advertising agency.  She then worked for the Department of Employment Security of Illinois for 17 years retiring at age 72.  Dottie was a former member of the Junior Women’s Club and Young Homemakers of Mt. Vernon, Illinois.  She was a member of Women of the Moose in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.  She and Ted had many friends all over the country and she still kept in touch with many of them.  Dottie is survived by her only child, Ted W. Mitchell, Jr. and his wife Darby of Mt. Zion, Illinois; grandchildren, Christine Endsley and husband Ryan of Shiloh, Illinois; Christopher Mitchell of High Ridge, Missouri; Kendra Ward and husband Tim of Champaign, Illinois and Kira Kash and husband Matt of Belle Rive, Illinois and Cole Mitchell of Decatur, Illinois; and five great grandchildren.  Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Everett Mannen, John Mannen and William Mannen, sisters, Edith Roberts and Gladys Purcell and special cousin Jeanne Anne Spurlock.   The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Evergreen Place and McKinley Court and Dr. D. Vernon, Illinois. Betsy was born on Saturday, July 11, 1964 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois the daughter of the late Billy and Betty L. (Tate) Newbury.  She married Rick Eskew on October 17, 1992 in Waltonville, Illinois. Surviving family members include her husband: Rick Eskew of Waltonville, Illinois; daughter: Maegan Eskew of Waltonville, Illinois; 3 brothers: Bill G. Newbury and wife Judy of Opdyke, Illinois, Roger D. Newbury and wife Donna of Waltonville, Illinois and Ronnie L. Newbury and wife Terry of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; sister: Kathy R. Taylor and special friend: Mel Fuller of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; several nieces and nephews also survive. Vernon, Illinois; grandfather: Herbert Buchanan and wife Barbara of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 2 sons: Skylar Beppler and Alex Beppler both of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; daughter: Destaney Beppler of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 2 sisters: Tina Matthews and husband Gary of McLeansboro, Illinois and Cathie Helverson and husband Wade of Bonnie, Illinois; several nieces, nephews, cousins and 2 great nephews also survive. His maternal grandmother and paternal grandparents preceded him in death.    Jonnie worked with heavy equipment in the construction business. While he was in Mt. Vernon owned and operated Beppler Heating and Air Conditioning. He was a member of the Mt. Robert was born on Sunday, October 11, 1931 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois the son of the late Bernard “Ben” and Vera (Wisniewski) Klevorn.  He married Annalee Veatch on October 2, 1954 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Surviving family members include her wife: Annalee Klevorn of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; daughter: Cindy Sloan and husband John of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; son: Robert Michael Klevorn of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 3 grandchildren: Daniel Lee Klevorn of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Matthew Paul Sloan of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and david Andrew Sloan and wife Sara of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; great grandson: Ayden Thomas Sloan of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; sister: Mary Ann Klevorn of San Antonio, Texas; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents and two sisters: Ada Liade Keller and Bernice Seely preceded him in death.    Robert was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War serving from August 15, 1952 to August 13, 1954 with Company "C" 439th Engineering Battalion. Following his military service he was an assembly man at the Mt. Vernon Stove Foundry until retiring and later worked as janitor at St. Mary School in Mt. Vernon. He was also a member of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.    FUNERAL MASS: will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. The Very Reverend Father John Iffert. VISITATION: will be held from 5 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
