    3. Max J Kelley December 28, 1939 ~ December 6, 2019 (age 79) Obituary Max J. Kelley, 79, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 5:05 A.M. December 6, 2019 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, Illinois. He was born December 28, 1939 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the late Leonard Kelley and Pauline (Murphy) Kelley. He married Judy Trout on October 18, 1958. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Judy (Trout) Kelley, Max is survived by his two daughters, Jayanna Kelley and Tracy Hustedde and husband, Raymond, both of Mount Vernon, Illinois; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Max was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Kelley and Pauline (Murphy) Kelley; daughter, Dolena (Dodie) Kelley; and five siblings, Charles Kelley, Gene Kelley, Dolena Kelley, Romona Kelley, and Gary Kelly. Max proudly served the United States Navy for four years. He worked as a car detailer. Max and his wife, Judy started the first car detailing business in Mount Vernon in 1977 until his retirement. He loved camping, fishing, playing guitar, and his family, especially his grandchildren. Max will be missed dearly by all who knew him. At this time no public services will be held. Jack is survived by his daughter, Emily Ann Kniffen of Kansas City, Missouri; sister, Janet Kniffen of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and former wife, Lisa Sneed of Mount Vernon, Illinois. Jack loved golf, St. Louis Cardinals Baseball, and music. He was a dedicated employee of Steffy Home Furnishings for over forty years. He was a conversationalist who loved discussing history of all kinds. He had many friends, was dearly loved, and will be missed by all who knew him. He was born September 10, 1939 in McCormick, Illinois to the late Hugh E. and Nellie (McCormick) Martin. Dale is survived by his companion, Marilyn Sendelbach of Mount Vernon; daughter, Stefani Martin of Wilmington, North Carolina; grandchildren, Wyatt Martin, Hailey Martin, Carley Martin, and Kayla Harris; sister, LaDon Lee of Springfield, Illinois; two nieces, Vickie Weiskopf and husband, Larry Chism of Springfield, Illinois and Amy Hinckley and husband, Jay of Springfield, Illinois; and his companion's children, Vickie, Diane, Sandy, Michael, and Ariel. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, William "Bill" Lee and son, Dale Roger Martin, Jr. Dale proudly served his country in the United States Army from October of 1961 to August of 1967. He later worked as a law enforcement agent for the US Bureau of Prisons for the Department of Justice in Washington D.C. retiring after thirty years of service. He was a 50 year Mason and member of the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge #31 A.F. & A.M. He also held memberships at the Mount Vernon Moose Lodge #755 (L.O.O.M), the Turner Roehm AMVETS Post #4, the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141, the Mount Vernon Gun and Sportsman Club; and the U.S. Penitentiary Retirees of Marion, Illinois. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting with his dearest friends, Richard and Steve England. Dale was well loved and will be missed by all who knew him. A Visitation will be held 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Monday, December 9, 2019 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 6:00 P.M. following the visitation with Chaplain Ernie Collins officiating. She married Mark Akins on June 14, 1969 in Dupo, Illinois and Mark survives in Waltonville. In addition to her beloved husband of fifty years, Linda is survived by her sisters, Mary May Fergen of Vermont and Rachel Christine Townsend of Belleville. In addition to her parents Mrs. Akins was preceded in death by her brother, Elbert Allen Buckley. Linda worked as a cashier and salesperson, a pharmacy technician, and a real estate agent. She was an all-around fiber artist whose talents included spinning, weaving, quilting, crocheting, and knitting. She was a marvelous and enthusiastic teacher of both knitting and crocheting. Linda was a member of Cedarhurst Center for the Arts and the Schrode Art Center. She enjoyed camping, boating, and painting with her husband, and loved her dogs and cats as her own children. Iris was a homemaker and babysat in her home for many years. Iris also cooked at Wilkey's Cafe. Her hobbies were gardening, flowers, and camping. She loved being with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church for over 40 years.     3. Reverend Robert "Bob" Hollis December 29, 1931 ~ November 19, 2019 (age 87) Reverend Robert "Bob" Hollis, 87, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Saint Louis University Hospital. He was born December 29, 1931 in Pocahontas, Illinois, the son of the late Roscoe and Laura (Jenner) Hollis. Bob married Clarice (McCauley) Hollis on June 5, 1953. In addition to his beloved wife of 66 years, Bob is survived by his son, Marlin and his wife, Kenna of Rochester, Illinois, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his siblings, Vera Byrd and Jim Hollis. Bob was a graduate of Granite City High School, Summa Cum Laude from McKendree University, and Cum Laude from Drew University, School of Theology in Madison, New Jersey. Mr. Hollis served as a United Methodist pastor for forty-three years. Prior to ordination, his charges included Woodlawn, Shiloh, DuBois, Plattekill and Rossville, New York. After being ordained an elder in the Southern Illinois United Methodist Church, his charges included Patoka, Edwardsville Immanuel, East Alton First, and Belleville Signal Hill. He served as District Superintendent in Vandalia and as Director of Administrative Services in the Conference Office in Mount Vernon. He served as a delegate to many Jurisdictional and General Conferences of the church and was instrumental in the merger of the Southern and Central Illinois Conferences that became the Illinois Great Rivers Conference. Through the World Council of the Church, he served as interim pastor in Leicester, England and Spiez, Switzerland. In retirement, Bob enjoyed tending beautiful vegetable gardens and fruit trees, mowing his acreage, camping with the Road Runners, and traveling the world. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. A Visitation will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Sunday, November 24, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Victor Long, Reverend William B. Lewis, and Reverend William O. Frazier officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born May 5, 1935 in Dahlgren, Illinois to the late Jasper and Lucille (Lemke) Shingleton. She married Williard O. Lowry on October 6, 1963. They were blessed with thirty-seven years of marriage before he preceded her in death on May 8, 2001. Wanda is survived by her son, Wayne Lowry and wife, Karen of Mount Vernon, Illinois and sister, Carolyn Brake of Woodlawn, Illinois. Wanda was a member of West Side Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. November 18, 2019 at his residence in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born December 8, 1985 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to William Earl and Lisa Katherine "Kathy" (Threatt) Hughey. In addition to his parents, Levi is survived by his brother, Jacob Hughey of Mount Vernon, Illinois; sister, Shalena Heil of Port Arthur, Texas; niece, Alissa Keys of Sagemount, Texas; nephew, Joshua Keys of Sagemount, Texas; great-aunt, Sarah Capps of Belle Rive, Illinois; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Levi was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, J.R. and Janice Threatt and paternal grandparents, John and Doris Hughey. Levi loved to fish, play video games, and cars. He always had a sense of humor and love in everything even thru illness and adversity. He loved his dogs, Beau and Doe. Levi was loved greatly and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. She was a long-time high school teacher of typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, and business practices in Brownsburg and Franklin, Indiana, and other Indiana schools. After her retirement, she lived for years in Pendleton, Oregon, where she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She later moved to West Frankfort, Illinois, where she enjoyed a warm welcome and good friends at the Trinity United Methodist church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sheldon H. Irish, and daughter, Judith Irish Anderson. She is survived by her daughter, Peri Irish Switzer, her son, Bruce D. Irish, her daughter-in-law, Ellen Irish, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. She has requested that no public service be held.
