George W Tate in the matter of the Estate of William Tate deceased, for Letters of Administration. The petition of the undersigned George W Tate respectfully represents that William Tate late of the County of Jasper aforesaid departed this life at Smallwood township in said County, on or about the 27th day of November AD 1887, leaving no last will and testament as far as your petitioner know or believe. And this petition further shows that the said William Tate died seized and possessed of Real and Personal Estate consisting chiefly of about 290 acres of Land, notes and monies (TC) & few articles of chattel property all of said personal estate being estimated to be worth about $1200.00 dollars. That said deceased left surviving him no widow and Stephen B Tate(decd), Sarah VanLeer(decd), John F Tate(decd), William A Tate, James N Tate, Rhoda M Champ(decd), Joshua Tate(decd), Francis Tate(decd), G W Tate, N W Tate his children as heirs. The article was entitled Old Timer: William Tate now living in Smallwood Township, was born in Nicholas County, Kentucky in 1794. He came to Jasper County 36 years ago and settled 1 mile west of present Bogota, then a Wilderness. He ownes 290 acres of land. Mrs Tate died in 1877. He is the father of 11 children, has 32 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren. From Newton Press obituary 30 Nov, 1887: He was a faithful Democrate and a member of the New Light Church. He died Saturday 26 November, 1887. The funeral on Monday 28 November 1887 was one of the largest ever in the county.
