Karima, Thanks for posting these marriage transcripions. Often, you are providing the missing piece of information that I have been seeking. For example, the record for: Edward GORDON -- Josie STOFFLE I knew from the Brenda Lee Garver books that Josie had married a GORDON and that she was living in St. Louis in 1906 and in Hartford, CT in 1934, but I did not know the name of her husband. With the clue of his first name, I was able to locate them in the 1910 census for St. Louis, and I discovered they had a daughter Hazel, b. abt 1898. Josie was listed as Amanda J. GORDON (her maiden name was Amanda Josephine STOFFEL), and Edward was listed as Edward B. GORDON. Amanda Josephine STOFFEL was the daughter of Peter STOFFEL, Jr. and Harriet C. BRADLEY. It is interesting to note how some of the spellings of the surnames differs from other records. For example, STOFFEL vs. STOFFEL. I suspect this was due partly to a laxity in spelling and in other cases to the difficulty in deciphering the old hand-written records. For example, the record for: Parker L. GORDON -- Emma V. HALL About half of the records I see for Parker list him as Parker I. GORDON and the other half as Parker L. GORDON. It seems the script "I" looked very much like the script "L." Another common source of confusion was the script "S" vs. the script "L" which looked so very much alike and have led to many mistranscriptions, such as Lara for Sara, etc. Parker I. or L. GORDON was the son of Rebecca YOUNG and Rev. Harry Smith GORDON (familiarly known as "Uncle Henry" in his later years, he started the Looney Springs Baptist Church). The marriage to Emma was Parker's second marriage. Emma died 11 Aug 1886 and was buried at Looney Springs cemetery. Parker's third marriage was to Rebecca Jane WEEDON. Their adopted daughter Nora married Homer BARTLETT. One final comment regarding the marriage of: Granvill GRAFF -- Lydia Jane REDFIELD This was the first marriage for Granville GRAFF, son of Jacob GRAFF and Mary Elizabeth LEVAN. Lydia Jane REDFIELD, daughter of Benjamin Roswell REDFIELD and Elizabeth Jane CHEATHAM, died 18 Jun 1886 and was buried at Looney Springs cemetery. On 29 Sep 1887 Granville GRAFF married Margaret Ann REIMAN, daughter of William A. REIMAN and Lucretia Elizabeth COOPER.
