    3. Linda, There is a Goodbread (one word) cemetery in Grand Tower. It is alongside Route 3, at the north end of Grand Tower. The family originated in Germany, where the name was GUTBRODT (which means Goodbread in English). I have the family traced back to 1604 in Nordheim, Wuerttemberg, Germany. 1. German Pronunciation Re: [ILJACKSON] Good Bread?
    2. John Todd
    3. Gee this makes sense even to me. I sure can not pronounce German but have had old timers tell me that Gut in German is Good and pronounced "Goot"and others that the German "d" is pronounced as a "t" to us. Also that "herz" in Gutherz was for Good Heart. Mom called in "broodt" instead of bread quite a bit; but unfortunately in our family the German language quit being used daily with her generation. My sister and I still laugh about our father saying Mom's family talked about him in German so he couldn't understand after we found out his grandmother Mary Anna Darr( also Tarr someplaces ) was German and not Irish as the Howard surname might indicate.
