I am happy to do lookups in these books in my personal library: Index of Obituaries printed in The Southern Illinois Herald Newspaper 1893-1922 (Note that this is only an index with date of publication. The newspaper is in the collection at Morris Library, SIU.) Merchants, Tradesmen and Manufacturers & Financial Condition for Jackson County, Illinois 1914 (Listings by town, then name of business or tradesman, type of business.) Farm Families of Jackson & Williamson Counties, Illinois in 1920 (Gives head of household, maiden name of wives, children's name, year farm purchased, township, etc. Separate index for maiden names.) Growing up with Southern Illinois 1820-1861 (This is basically a journal kept by Daniel H. Brush, who was one of the founders of Carbondale and had settled at Brownsville in 1829. He served in the 18th IL Infantry, Civil War. There are lots of names in the index.) Ghost Towns of Southern Illinois 1878 History of Jackson County and 1907 Atlas of Jackson County (Many names in both. The atlas shows where each property owner was located and often where there was a dwelling on their property, school, or cemetery.) List of Sunset Haven Cemetery aka County Farm (West edge of Carbondale.) List of Manor-Pike aka Zion Cemetery (Northwestern part of county, near Shiloh Hill and Campbell Hill, now abandoned.) Hi Juli, Happy New Year! I am looking for a death date for my great grandmother - Elizabeth Nall Gibbs. The best I can determine is she died between 1894 and 1900. She is not listed on the 1900 census - her husband and children are - her last child having been born April 1893. So, if the next time you are able to search I would appreciate any help. Just let me know the cost. Again, thank you so much.
