    1. [ILJACKSO] Let's begin 2007 with a revitalization of our Jackson County list . . .
    2. Dear Fellow Jackson County Researchers, First of all, I just wanted to say that I hope this New Year of 2007 will be a prosperous and happy one for each and every one of you. Secondly I wanted to give you a status report on the membership of this list. As of this morning there are 126 members subscribed to the list. Traffic on the list has been rather slow of late. It isn't only slow on this list, but most of the lists to which I belong have been very silent for what seems like a very long time. I think this might be a good time to let each other know something about our Jackson County connections and what information we are looking for, and to try to revitalize our list. Where is everybody? Well, I can only speak for myself, but I suspect that over the past few months many of us have been up to our eyeballs in preparing for the Holidays. Now that they are behind us, and we are embarking on a New Year, we can turn our thoughts and efforts in a different direction. So, let's get back to genealogy. Remember that this list, or any list, can only be as active as the participation of the members. So, take this opportunity to dig through your "sent" mail and see if you can find queries that you posted to the list for which you never received the information you need. Update them with any additional information you might have been able to acquire and then resend you query to the list. If you have any resource books for Jackson County, and you feel that you can devote some time to sharing that information, either post some of it to the list, or offer to do limited time lookups for the other members of the list. So, if anyone has a question to ask, or resources to offer, please let us know. This is a good list and in the past lots of helpful information has flown back and forth . . . we just need to get back to it. Best wishes and good luck with your searches. Karima ILJACKSO List Administrator PS, for those of you who are subscribed to other lists I administer, I apologize for the duplication of this message.

    3. Hi Karima, I am researching all of the families of Jackson County, IL, and my SHAWCROSS gedcom file is available to assist other researchers. It is posted at Rootsweb at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=shawcross Currently, it contains records for more than 65,000 individuals, and I estimate that at least 40,000 of these are ancestors or descendants of individuals who were born in Jackson County. My file is not limited to Jackson County families - it includes families from the nearby counties of Franklin, Perry, Randolph, Union, and Williamson. I seldom post queries to the Jackson County list, but I do respond to them frequently. 1. [ILJACKSO] HILL, BATSON, RAGLAND
    2. Anita Tally
    3. Hello, Jackson Co. cousins - I am researching Enoch E. HILL (1817-1894) who moved to Jackson Co. about 1863 - he worked as a physician. He died in Makanda Twp. His second wife was Dorcas McAlister. I know at least one of his children lived in Jackson Co. (a child from the first marriage) - she was Ruth Margaret Hill b. 1850, and she married Anslem Batson in 1869 in Jackson Co. There were other HILL children, but I have not made the connections..... The BATSONs had 3 daughters: Alma b. 1872, Ida b. 1873, Nora b. 1878. Ida married a Ragland, and Nora married a HILL. Does anyone know this family? Thank you! 3. Hello all, My interests are the ARNDT, BEHNKEN, BRADLEY, LOY, RUSSELL and associated families in Jackson, Randolph and Perry Counties. My Jackson County families primarily lived in Bradley Township with some settling near Murphysboro. I have quite a bit of information on these and associated families. Be sure to check my web site at http://www.mindspring.com/~jsruss/ for more information and photographs. I'm also available to do lookups (full name, not surname only pls) in the following books. Jackson County, Formation and Early Settlement Jackson County, County Commissioners Court Records 1823-1835 Jackson County, Military Census and Military Rolls 1862-1863 Jackson County, Meetings of County Court and Jury Lists 1823-1841 Do You Remember Campbell Hill St. John "Post Oak" 1864-1989 I might have some others, but those are what I see on my bookshelf right now. I lived my early years in Steeleville spending a lot of time on my Grandparents farm in Perry County which was across the County line from Post Oak Church. 2. Mary Riseling
    3. I have several books that I can do periodic lookups for people. I have the following: All Jackson County Census books from 1818 thru 1880 1900 Jackson County Census for City of Murphysboro, and Murphysboro, Bradley, Degognia, Fountain Bluff, and Kinkaid Townships Jackson County Death Book 1904-1915 Index to Jackson County Death Records 1844-1906 PLEASE NOTE: If wanting information from any of these books, please be specific on the name you are looking for and which publication you want checked. It will make it easier and quicker for me. I prefer not to do blanket searches for a name (i.e., All Johnsons in any of the publications). I also live in Springfield and have ability to pull death certificates on request. If you are interested in this, I will pull records for the cost of photocopy expenses only. However, I request that you please check the Statewide Index on the Illinois Archives database http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/idphdeathindex.html and provide me with the name, date of death, county of death and certificate number BEFORE sending me an e-mail. All of this information is located on the Archives webpage when you do your search. To keep from clogging up the List, you can send requests directly to riseling@insightbb.com Mary Riseling Springfield, IL
