Carol, The only Evans I have listed in the 1844-1906 death index is Logan Thomas Evans. There is no date of death given for him but indicates he is listed in Death Register #1. These registers should be located in Jackson County. The 1904-1915 index shows the following people named Evans: Fred Evans, died 11/25/1908 Oscar Evans, died 4/22/1914 William Evans, died 3/30/1911 If any of these are of interest, let me know. The 1904-1915 index gives much more information about the deceased including in some instances place of birth, date of birth, name of father, name of mother, and place of burial. Mary; Can you please look these up in your Index to Jackson Co. death records? David L. Evans died 25 March 1897; Grace Evans died 24 June 1903. If these appear in the index, how/where do I go about obtaining the death records? Also, I am searching (without success) for the death of Susan (Susie) Trobaugh Evans. I have several books that I can do periodic lookups for people. I have the following: All Jackson County Census books from 1818 thru 1880 1900 Jackson County Census for City of Murphysboro, and Murphysboro, Bradley, Degognia, Fountain Bluff, and Kinkaid Townships Jackson County Death Book 1904-1915 Index to Jackson County Death Records 1844-1906 PLEASE NOTE: If wanting information from any of these books, please be specific on the name you are looking for and which publication you want checked. It will make it easier and quicker for me. I prefer not to do blanket searches for a name (i.e., All Johnsons in any of the publications). I also live in Springfield and have ability to pull death certificates on request. If you are interested in this, I will pull records for the cost of photocopy expenses only. However, I request that you please check the Statewide Index on the Illinois Archives database http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/idphdeathindex.html and provide me with the name, date of death, county of death and certificate number BEFORE sending me an e-mail. All of this information is located on the Archives webpage when you do your search. To keep from clogging up the List, you can send requests directly to riseling@insightbb.com Mary Riseling Springfield, IL
Juli; I have been searching for obits for the following people: Susan (Susie) Trobaugh Evans; David Evans; Grace Evans; Charles Augustus Griffin; Henry W. Trobaugh; Rebecca A. Trobaugh; Grant Trobaugh; James Trobaugh. I would also be interested in knowing if any of the above names appear in any of the resource books you have as well as any mention of any of the following names: William Latter/Latty; William Thompson; Caroline Thompson; Jonathan Franklin Wiseman. Karima: What I am seeking in regards to Oakland is information that could possibly help some of us solve a few family mysteries. For example, I have been told that the first record of a lot being sold at Oakland is 1877. However, I have a relative (a child named Grant Trobaug) who died 18 Feb. 1873 and is buried at Oakland; we would like to find out who purchased his grave and when. For all we know, he was buried elsewhere, exhumed and reburied at Oakland. We would like to know exactly when Oakland Cemetery came into existence and also from whom the land was obtained. It is possible that the land was obtained from some of our ancestors. We would also like to know who purchased the grave for Henry W. Trobaugh who died 10 August 1898. Actually, we are trying to determine who purchased the following graves and when they were purchased: Rebecca A. Trobaugh d. 20 Jan 1924; James Trobaugh d. 1889 (infant); Alva Trobaugh d. 22 Jul 1927. All of those graves (including the graves of Grant and Henry W.) are in Block 47, Lot 6, row 3 at Oakland. Then, we come to the grave of Laura Trobaugh Bonham, also buried at Oakland in Block 66, Lot 114; Laura died 21 March 1918; however, buried with her (?) is an infant son who died in 1913. S, we also wonder when her grave was purhased and by whom; we wonder where this un-named male infant was buried from 1913 to 1918. We would also like to know who purchased the grave and when for Anna T. Moody who died 26 Oct. 1943 and is bured in Block 53, Lot 68. ANY help, information, etc. would really be appreciated. I have kind of been referred back and forth by the City Clerk and the sexton for Oakland and I honestly cannot come to Carbondale, at least for now. Carol Our life may not always be the party we would have chosen, but while we are here, we may as well dance!
Hi Juli, Happy New Year! I am looking for a death date for my great grandmother - Elizabeth Nall Gibbs. The best I can determine is she died between 1894 and 1900. She is not listed on the 1900 census - her husband and children are - her last child having been born April 1893. So, if the next time you are able to search I would appreciate any help. Just let me know the cost. Again, thank you so much. Anita: I would be interested in the EVANS family you are researching. Are they also in Jackson County? My main interest is in a Phyllis/Philis Evans who was married to a Thomas Evans. The best I can determine is they arrived in this country from Kent County England around late 1860 or early 1861. I am basing this on a naturalization certificate for her brother Charley Baseden that is dated 1869. I knew about the Baseden family back in 1995 but I was not aware that Phillis Evans is actually my 2nd great grandmother. In Kent County her name was Phillis/Phyllis Baseden. Her son Henry was born out of wedlock and appears given to her parents. The father was required to pay alimony. The Baseden family moved to Illinois straight from England and it appears that Thomas and Phyllis Evans also moved at the same time. It is this family that I am looking for. Her first born child, Charles Evans, is named after her brother Charles Baseden. Thanks. I am researching the line of Daniel (1757-1837) and Hannah Stone (1764-1834) Barrow. They came from NC to KY to IL. Several of the members of both families traveled with them. They came to Campbell Hill and were both buried on the family farm, but were then moved to the Campbell Hill Cemetery. In all likelihood, Daniel followed his son John Stone Barrow to IL. I am researching any Barrow's in this area as they would all be related. Some other names are VanZandt, Cowan and Musgrave. Thanks.
