As far back as I have been able to determine is Michael GRANT, b. Oct. 14, 1810 in Leeds, Ontario, Canada. He was Irish, belonged to a new Orange Order in Kitley in 1834, was Church of England and appeared out of thin air. He died in 1862 in Cambridge, Henry Cty, IL. He was a brick mason and perhaps that is the occupation he followed on his stop in Madison Cty, NY for several years (~1836-1839). He was hired to do the brickwork on the home of Patrick Neville in Henry Cty, IL in 1848. He was also a farmer as well as a pioneer in that area. He married Jane DACK in 1830 in Brockville, Leeds, Ontario. She was born in 1813 in Cty Wicklow, Ireland; the daughter of William Dack and Jane CODE/COAD. She had at least one sibling, John Dack, who was in Henry Cty, IL also. She died in 1878 Norton Cty, KS. Children: 1. William Grant Oct. 5, 1831 Smiths Falls, Ontario. He is my GGgrandfather. He died Oct 1, 1909 in Cactus Creek, Norton Cty, KS. He married Permelia Eliza (Minnie) STRAIGHT in 1860 in Cambridge, Henry Cty, IL. She was the daughter of Andrew Lot Straight of IL and Elvira BROWN of NY. 2. John Grant b. Aug. 1832 Kitley was baptized in the Church of England in Newboyne, Ontario by Rev. Gunning. He married Samantha Cahow April 14, 1859 in Henry Cty and then, after her death, he married Enna HAMILTON in 1869 in Cambridge, Henry Cty, IL and I believe he may have died in IA in 1941 3. Alexander b 1835 Brockville died about 1836 in Brockville, Ontario, Canada 4. Letitia b Aug. 1836 in Hamilton, Madison Cty, NY m. Samuel Perkins CADY in 1852 in Henry Cty, IL. She died in Chicago in about 1895. He was in the cattle business. 5. Sarah Jane b. Sept 6, 1838 Hamilton, Madison Cty, NY m. Marcus Lafayette HOVEY about 1855 in Henry Cty, IL. I know of one child named Lucina b1856. 6. Fannie b. Oct. 11, 1840 in Saxon, Henry Cty, IL m Osmond GILBERT in 1864 in Henry Cty. 7. Julia Nov. 14, 1842 Saxon, Henry Cty, IL m. Theodore KAY about 1864 in Henry Cty. 8. Mary Jane Nov. 4, 1844 Saxon, IL m. Fred NEUMANN 1864 Henry Cty. He was born in Germany. They both died in Exter, Fillmore Cty, NE. 9. Albert b. Nov. 26, 1846 Cambridge, Henry Cty, IL d about 1865 in Cambridge. 10. James Harmon b Dec. 12, 1848 Cambridge d 1899 in Henry Cty, IL. 11. Alice Foses b May 14, 1853 Cambridge m. about 1874 to Flavis MOODY in Henry Cty, IL. 12. Michael b. Children I know of: Leola Abt. 1902 Norton Cty, KS and Dwight, Jr. about 1906 in Norton Cty, KS. 2. John Earle (called Earle) b. Nov. 20, 1871 in Cambridge d Jan. 31, 1934 in Refugio Cty, TX. He married Mary Inez HEACOCK daughter of John and Margaret Jane LEGG Heacock. She was born in 1871 in Dublin, IN and d. 1900 in Phillipsburg KS. The children were Floyd Everett, Beulah Marie and Fern. Second marriage to: Elizabeth Helen GRAHAM in 1903 in KS. They had Cecil b. 1905 in KS and Genevieve b 1908 in KS. 3. Julia Lucilla b 1877 Cactus Creek, Norton, KS d 1951 Minden NE. She married Virgil David PARR 1909 and had one son: William Grant Parr Nov. 15, 1913 Palacios, TX. He was a War correspondent in WWII. 4. Letitia Elvira b 1885 Cactus Creek, Norton, KS d. 1987 in Las Cruces, NM. She married Clyde Thomas BUCHANAN Oct. 4, 1905. Child: Thelma I would appreciate any information on any of these folks, but especially on Michael who has eluded me for three years now.
