Here I am again with my Handy Book for Genealogists checking out info. on when the state of Illinois began to issue birth certificates. Birth certificates were not required in Illinois until 1916 so you will not be able to get a certificate from the state for your 1902 birth. The listing for Henry County states that "the county clerk has incomplete birth and death records from 1877" so you might have some luck there. Also, birth records for Henry County have been microfilmed by the LDS church so you can also order the microfilm through your local Family History Center. I have done so many times and find them to be excellent. Hope this helps. I always hate to see people wasting their time looking for a record in the wrong place. After 27 years as a genealogist I know that half the battle is just knowing where to look! Mimi Stang
Mimi - you forgot to mention you cannot get a birth certificate from 1916 to date unless you can prove you are a family member and the person you want the certificate of is deceased. I have the death certificate of my mothers brother who was born in 1924, but I had to prove I was a family member before she would let me have it. She stated the reason was because he was born after 1916. Being born 1916 they could still be living and they will not give those out except to the person themselves. Just thought I would as my 2 cents if that is ok.
