Hi List, I am searching for descendants of Johannes GERBER d. 1777 Berks Co., PA, for inclusion in the web site I'm building. I have it that David STROHECKER b 1802, s/o Daniel STROHECKER and Leah GERBER, died 1888 in Cambridge Twp., Henry Co., IL. I found an LDS ancestral file that lists David's children as George W. STROHECKER b 1825 d 1880, James T. STROHECKER b Abt 1826 , Sevilla STROHECKER b 1827 m. Male Zimmerman, Benneville STROHECKER b 1828, John H. STROHECKER b 1831 d 1888, Reuben STROHECKER b 1832, Catherine L. STROHECKER, b 1836, Mary Elizabeth STROHECKER b 1838, and Henry Clay STROHECKER b 1843, d 1861. Great finding your message posted on the [email protected] I am a direct descendent of Reuben Strohecker. I didn't have all of the children, of David Strohecker. I only had Reuben and John. So thanks for that! I did have Leah's father. But I had the last name listed as Garber, not Gerber, so thanks for the clarification. Daniel Strohecker's father was John Strohecker born 1755 in Boden Germany, died 1835. He was married to Julianna Hunder. That's all I have. Thanks for the extra info. Hi Pamela, I was pleased to connect with a descendant of the STROHECKER line. About 95 percent of the 15, 000 descendants of Johannes and Christina GERBER were Amish-Mennonites. Their first child John GERBER, father of Leah, appeared to be a member of the Reformed church. The STROHECKERs were Lutherans, I believe. They may have attended the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reading, PA -- the historical records could be a good source of information on STROHECKERs. You should check with your local genealogy (or historical) society -- Daniel's father was a Revolutionary War hero. I vaguely recall a reference to a Henry Co., IL publication that would contain a lot more on him. My information comes from the DAR applications that were filed by his descendants.
