Having experienced the loss of data from virus, twice, myself, I can sympathize with what a distressing and empty feeling (sickening). For what its worth, I sympathize with you. I finally learned that you can copy your whole hard drive to an insertable hard drive in one of the slots on the front of the computer, which takes about ten minutes for a 10 gig hd. That's right, just 10 minutes to copy the whole thing. I can copy it every day at the close of work and take copies home, bring another the next day, alternate, etc., so that I always have full backups. There may be better ways but this works pretty well compared to anything I've ever had before. Also, there is a shareware program called Multi-media (I don't have it on the computer I'm using at the moment) which organizes photos. I now scan photos and save them to a zip disk (one zip disk will store hundreds of photos), and this nifty little program sorts all the photos on the zip disk alphabetically and lets me click on whichever one I want, and then copy it to another file, enlarge it, turn it, or whatever. It is really neat. I think my kids said to get the full version of the shareware program registered cost $25. I know its too late to say all of this now, after you lost so much, but just in case it might help in the future I thought I would mention it. By the way, I don't write much on the Henry county list, but have had some very nice messages from some Henry county people in the past.
