I just wanted everyone who helped me with my search for Horatio Gates Sanford of Co. A 124th Illinios who died July 17, 1864 in Vicksburg know that I am FINALLY going to Vicksburg to visit his grave and follow the route of the 124th's march in the spring of 1864. I believe that I will be the first person in the family to visit his grave. I bought a copy of the regimental history that fills in some details and with his diary we hopefully can at least see the same terrain. Unfortunately they were doing the Sherman thing and burned many of the towns, so I don't expect to see too much of them with original architecture. I'll give a report when we return.
