You know, when I wrote the list policies back in 1997, there was no EBAY. I don't have any objections to pointing out if something Henry County related is available through an online auction. I'd rather see the stuff come "back home" so to speak. Just be careful that you aren't bidding against another researcher (this has happened to me before) who would be willing to share the item with you via a scan etc. LOL. List members may mention such items on the list so long as it is just done as a public service. IF however, I find out you are actually the SELLER of the items and are using the list to advertise your sales, that's a different critter and might get ya in trouble. BTW, on that topic, some of you may want to check out a website by Ford and Nagle. These guys are genealogists who rescue old photographs and then sell them. I'm sure they probably make a small profit but it can't be much judging by what their prices are and I HAVE seen Henry County families listed on there. I am not affiliated with them in any way, just pointing out the site as a public service. http://my.erinet.com/~fordnag/FordNagle.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: Jan Roggy To: ILHENRY-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, February 13, 2003 7:03 AM Subject: Re: [ILHENRY-L] question on list policy regarding finding Henry County items, photos online auctions? I don't know what the list's policy is, but I know that I'm on other lists that shares things like that! I for one would like to be aware of the fact that I might be missing out on something very valuable to my family! I vote to share the info, especially you're not gaining financially! Just my 2 cents worth! Jan Baldwin wrote: > What is the list policy for sharing items found on eBay that are for sale? I check this weekly for Henry County items and often see photos with names, school directories, land deeds, marriage certificates, and other important items up for sale and often no one gets them and I doubt many people even know what is out there. > I dont sell anything on there and hate to see family treasures that are so identifiable go unnoticed or still lost with people who have them but no connections to the county. Every time I search I get this guilty feelings if I don't mention what I see but I also dont want to violate the list policy either. > Thanks for the response...
