    1. Re: [ILHENRY-L] The list and the website are NOT the same thing....
    2. Susan: You have done a wonderful job with the updated website. It is easy to navigate through and has made finding information much easier. Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated. I have been a long-time user of the wesite and have posted information previously. I wish I had access to information that would allow me to be a lookup volunteer, but that just isn't an option for the present time. If and when I can ever figure out who some of the people are in a very old photo album I have of the Hunter/Hickox family I will pass those on to you. I am trying to put together family sheets on my family lines and hope to get those into the site as well. In the meantime, I do follow the work you have done and do appreciate all you are doing. Please, please keep up the good work and don't let it get the better of you. Remember, this is a hobby and it is suppose to be fun. 3. --=======44A22B07======= Content-Type: text/plain; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-5AF45E4D; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit I'm going to assume that since only a handful of people have bothered to contact me regarding the update to the Henry Co ILGenWeb Project site that I could have just skipped this three weeks of work and been doing something else.....like my own genealogy maybe?? I asked for people to submit their bios, obits, photos, etc. while I was doing the update--you know how many I got? I got ONE obit and two family group sheets....and bless one man who sent me a CD of photos he had previously submitted because when my computer blew up in 2001 it ate them after I found his email and contacted him directly. I asked for people to contact me if their email was wrong--a few did and I thank them for that. I asked for people to check the lookup list and see if there was some book they could offer to do lookups in because I was having to remove myself as the volunteer for several due to other projects. Where are all the volunteers??? There sure are a lot of folks who WANT a lookup, but not very many who want to DO a lookup. I had to remove three people as volunteers because their email addresses were not any good. I did get some email addresses fixed on there but after I removed myself as doing the bulk of the lookups, it is now pretty slim pickings. Volunteering to do lookups on the LIST is NOT THE SAME as signing up as a volunteer for the PAGE. If you are going to do lookups for the website, you need to notify me VIA EMAIL that you want to be on the Lookup volunteer list. I was sort of chastised for not having one lady listed on the list who has apparently been doing lookups on the list for some time---I went through all my email and there was nothing in it telling me to add this lady to the PAGE list. Then I went back through the list and discovered a discussion about another project to a project around the 1877 History of Henry Co Taxpayers and Voters when there is already such a project going on via the website. I asked the folks who were on the original volunteer sign up page to contact me if they were still interested--one did. So I have removed the list, will blank it out and repost it. I've done some of it myself over the past few days... The only project that I've been notified of and have participated in is Dave Blishs database project where he is extracting data from bios and other sources and building a Henry Co database which I think is FABULOUS and look forward to seeing. My question is this....Do you people even LOOK at the website to see what projects are going on there or what you could submit to help other researchers? A lot of folks are not ON the list--they use the website only. Granted in the past year or so I have been pretty slack on working on the website due to family matters, but I just worked my butt off for three straight weeks adding new data, making navigation more simple, trying to give you guys a good place to research and nobody even seems to have bothered to LOOK. (I have a counter, I can tell how many folks visit--I can also tell what they search for...) Even after I posted that I had just uploaded a major upgrade to the site and specifically asked people to check their email addresses on the pages, etc. It's not even HARD to check to see if your email is right or wrong...put your name in the search engine...if you find yourself, go to that page and make sure the email is right. Off my soapbox now... The list owner AND the county coordinator .... That's the only thing that's the same about both sites... --=======44A22B07======= Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; x-avg=cert; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-5AF45E4D Content-Disposition: inline --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 2. Barbara Hanson
    3. Susie, I love your soapbox and you deserve to get on it. You have been through a lot personally and still worked hard on this website. I do, however, think you need to give people time to look at your website. Today was the first I could get to it. I work and there are times when I come home from work I don't even want to look at my PC let alone turn it on. It could be a week before I check all my messages. I just happened to have some free time at work today. I checked out every page!!! Anyway... I really like what you've done. It IS easier to navigate. And I do hope to send you some photos I think some people might be interested in... but I have to get organized. I do lookups for Oakwood Cemetery. My email address IS correct on the list. I would also like to volunteer as a lookup person for North Cemetery in Geneseo. When I check Oakwood I also check North Cemetery in Geneseo and Rosedale Cemetery in Andover Cemetery. I've been to many rootsweb county websites and I'll have to say OURS is the best!!! and most helpful. I was going to send you a personal message from work today, but rr.com has blocked my web sever from work and I can't send to rr.com at this time. So here I am letting everyone know I think you're doing a great job. And please keep up the good work. Dave's helping me out on this one and I really appreciate the assistance. It's very difficult for me to monitor the list and the site and catch every change. The updating of the site is getting close to being posted, but I keep finding more goodies for you guys. Instead of uploading a little here and a little there and thus confusing myself, all the changes are going to come up at once! So while it may not look like anything is being done, in a few more days you'll know what's going on. I forgot to mention the other reason I am removing myself from the lookups list...part of it is to work on the 1877 Taxpayers book project...the other is that we've been loaned a copy of the Henry County Roll of Honor Book (World War I) with photos and brief info of most of the men who served from Henry Co. I do NOT have time to do lookups from this publication so please don't ask. I am busy transcribing the info and scanning the photos so we will, in time, have the whole book online. A MAJOR thanks goes out to Janice Mercer for loaning me this book. Copies are also available at the Kewanee Library and at the Kewanee Historical Society so you can get someone to lookup from there until I can get it done --this project is going to take a while because I have to be VERY careful scanning these photos so as to not damage this family heirloom belonging to Janice. ALSO, WAY WAY BACK a long time ago on another hard drive gone gone away, I had formatted a diary by Charles Henry Cushman. Well, it went bye bye but today I found the original diskette it was sent to me on...problem is I don't know who SENT it to me except that it is a grandchild of Charles Henry Cushman. If you are his grandchild and transcribed his diaries, PLEASE contact me. Also, I will be posting a list as I can get it together of people who submitted photos to me that the photos vanished in hopes you can re-send the photos. When my puter went stupid it ate some of the mail and left the attachments, and in some cases, left the mail and ate the attachements... I will also be posting some photos that were submitted that I do not know who they are or who sent them because I ended up only with the attachment and not the narrative that goes with them ARGHHH --=======1D904FAE======= Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; x-avg=cert; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-6E64DC Content-Disposition: inline --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. I am in no way related to these companies or financially benefit from them. I am a member of Genealogy.com (and Ancestry.com) and have premium memberships to both. At Genealogy.com for an extra $80 a year I gained access to the Families and Local History Collection by Heritage Quest Online. This allows me access to thousands of works. You are allowed to access, view, and download 50 pages per book. They had the three specific works on Henry County below and several on Bishop Hill Colony. I was able to find numerous bios on my ancestors. One thing I noticed that not all the names are listed in the original book indexes that appear in these works. On locating the bio on my GGG grand Aunt's Husband and her bio, Matilda LUTHER and William HARBAUGH) I was able to locate the family name of my GGG Grandmother Salome (Schock) who was married to George Barthel LUTHER, her father Adam was also listed. Had I not searched all my collateral lines, I never would have found this info I have been searching decades for. I downloaded the indexs for the two anonymous works the 1885 and the 1877 and would be glad to look up names on these indexes. I have used up my fifty page limit per book but still have access to the indeces and am happy to share the burden of doing look-ups for names. best wishes, Stephen Anonymous Portrait and biographical album of Henry County, Illinois : containing full-page portraits and biographical sketches of prominent and representative citizens of the county, together with portraits and biographies of all the governors of Illinois, and of the presidents of the United States : also containing a history of the county, from its earliest settlement to the present time. 3. Jan, Dick (or anyone else) - I'm not sure if we have a connection to Festus COLE - my COLE is Henry, who married Emeline CLARK in Knox County in 1860 (they lived with the Emeline's family in the Neponset(Bureau County)/Kewanee(Henry County)area. Might any of you have information that my Henry is related to the Festus line? 3. David, I am not sure if this is what you are working on, but I have a Liggett/Phelps/Gladwish/Leibee family tree and story of how they came together in Henry County, Illinois on my website at http://ajp3.home.mindspring.com/liggett/. Perhaps you would like to include it in your list.
