Does anyone happen to know where the Grand View Methodist Episcopal Church was located? I've recently discovered that my gr- gr- grand uncle, Zachariah Welch, was a preacher there around the 1870s timeframe. I'm trying to determine where in Henry County it was located or if there are any records remaining from the church. I'd appreciate any help on this one. Hello List, I am descended from the MORROW family of the Geneseo area. I cannot link Phineas MORROW b.1884 in Iowa and family was wife Louise and children Doris, Frank, and Thomas. Doris I believe was a second? grade school teacher in Geneseo as I recall from some kind soul's email to me about the Morrows. My MORROWs are the descendents of John S Morrow and Sarah HAMILTON who came from Westmoreland County, PA and intermarried and migrated with the HAMILTON, STEEL, and HANNA families. (My GGG Grandfather is their son Samuel) I have gone through all my notes and I cannot locate Phineas anywhere. The first mention of him that I can find is when he was 15 living as a farmhand in the Geneseo area in the 1900 US Census, lost him in the 1910 Census, but then he reappears in both the 1920 and 1930 Census. There is a mention of Mrs. Phineas Morrow in the Dixon Evening Telegraph, March 6, 1950 where she is speaking at a DAR event in that town. Thank you for your time..Best wishes Stephen ps..if I was helping anyone out there with the Morrow/Hamilton line research. I recently found out the Hamilton/Wilson information was corrupted with research by Gustav Anjou and I am in the process of deleting the erroneous info from my internal notes . I apologize for the delay. My Morrow line information is in the process of being rechecked now.
Hello all. I would love to help out if able. I live in the pacific NW so that is not too much help. I have planned to send my Timberlake info to David Bliss but have been unable to do so as of yet. I also volunteered to help on the 1877 project and at one point in time sent a check to cover the cost of copying pages to send to me. After a year I added the check back into my checkbook as it went uncashed. I am a license tax preparer so as you can figure this is my very very busy time. Since Nov 9 I have been to 5 funerals. One aunt, One family friend and 3 very dear friends, 1 suicide, 3 cancer and 1 kidney, ages 32-66. Now my mother and my uncle are very ill. I was contacted once about the 1877 project asking if I had a copy of the book, I do not, but wanted to help anyway and have not heard a word since. I have not been able to work on my own stuff but planned to scan more pictures, send obits that I have found so far, a couple of wills etc. My Timberlake's have been in Hen! ry county since 1837, my Grans arrived in the 1850's. This list has been a very very helpful one to me and without a couple of the people on the list I would not have as much information as I do on my great-great-grandfather Dr. Christian Gran, from Andover and Alpha, or my great-great-Grandfather Robert Douglas Timberlake as farmer with over 900 acres on Oxford Township. One reason I really wanted to help on the 1877 project is because I do NOT own a copy of the book nor do I have over $200 to buy a copy of it. I am still looking for info on my family. Again this list is the best and would be glad to help out but someone needs to tell me what it is that I can do to help. Naturally I can not run to the courthouse as it would be a pretty long run :-) but I am a fast typer and when not in tax season I do have some time to spare. Thanks for listening and again this list is the best. People like Dave M, Carol K, Cindy C, Julie B, Shelly in Calif., Elaine, Connie F. Robert L, Carol A, Kim, Kathryn, Rosalie B, All of these wonderful list members have helped me find so much information I don't even know how to begin to say THANK YOU ALL OF YOU! I'm not sure I understand what kind of volunteers you are looking for. I have lived in Henry county for most of my life. If I knew what areas you were lacking volunteers in, I would gladly help out in any way that I could. I do check the website about once a week, but I only found it a couple of weeks ago. You get it from the County offices. But it is disappointing. Just a name and the nationality they previously were and date. I got several. There is a WIlliam glass who was naturalized on Sept 20, 1888. He was born in 1859 or he was 16 years old. It's hard to tell from the index. He was from Great Britain. On Oct 30, 1880 there is an Alex L. Love who was naturalized. He was from Ireland/Great Britain. It appears he was born in 1849 altho there is a note something about being 9 months old and he is listed as a minor. Hope this helps. Sorry about all of the wierd errors in the previous message. I have no ided how that happened. And I don't think that I meant to send it to the list, as opposed to the person it was intended for. Having said that, the Henry County family tree database and searchable database is done! I have created a gedcom of the family tree database, and a text file for creating a searchable database. If someone would like to test it for me, I would be glad to send it to you. I created some simple instruction of how to create a searhable database, using the text file that I created. The content if from the web pages on the bios, plus some of the Blish relatives of Sylvester and Charles Cheney Blish. The 181 page WORD file, which contains the texts of the bios, is not ready and to my standards yet. It needs indexing codes so that indexes can be created from the text, and with 2,761 people, it will take some more time. If you would like to test it, please contact me off the list. I did receive some assistance earlier with a web-page collection. Comments were given, and problems and suggestion were resolved. After creating that thing, it looks like an elephant to me. Too big! The gedcom and searchable database files are much simpler. David Blish
Robin I do not find any English in the 1860 Census for Orion, Western, Loraine, Lynn or Andover. That is all I have done so Far. Several Johnsons but none with an Ida.
Thank you so much for taking the time to check! Robin
Thanks for the suggestion Bob.. Actually, I have some Swedish ancestors on my maternal side too, so I can look for them as well!!
I guess I'd try this Swedish Genealogy bulletin board Sweden Genealogy Forum I think you have to join to post a question, but I think it's free, Anyway, some people on this forum have what's called the "Emigration CD". This compact disc has a searchable database on it. This database came from a law passed in Sweden in 1869, which required all Swedes leaving the country to register with the police at the port from which they were leaving the country. If Ida didn't leave until after this time, whe might be on this CD. You need to give them as much information as you can to narrow down their search, approximate birth bate, parents names and ages, when they emigrated, etc. This is how I found out where my great grandmother came from. I had no clue until someone did a lookup for me. Good luck, Bob
The Margta Ersdotter that I have listed as a Bishop Hill colonist was born April 7, 1843 in Näsbyn, Alfta Parish, Gävleborg Län, Sweden. I also have another one that was born May 2, 1825 in Älvkarhed 6, Alfta Parish, Gävleborgs Län, Sweden and I have a marriage date for her as 1848. The Per Ersson I have listed was born Oct 2, 1830 in Älvkarhed 6, Alfta Parish, Gävleborgs Län, Sweden. Erik Ersson was born June 22, 1783 in Älvkarhed 6, Alfta Parish, Gävleborgs Län, Sweden.
