It's been a while since I've posted, so I wanted to share my information. I hope others will do the same. The lines I am researching are "mostly" from Missouri and Illinois. Carol Apperson-Freihaut [email protected] Surnames: APPERSON, HOPPE, BUSKIRK, CONE, FREIHAUT, HALMICH, MODER, MEES
Hello Amy; Hunter Cemetery is located in Wheatland Township; 9 miles south of Tiskilwa and 7 miles east of Bradford. BTW, Amy, Dave Zeller, who has linked this to his site, is from Leaf River in Ogle County.....it is he who is going to assist us with repairing the stones. He is doing an extensive renovation of Rice Cemetery in Leaf River...Check out his page through the Ogle County web page. Hello; If you'd like to see what Jim & I have been doing with our summer this year, please see the website below! :) Hunter Cemetery is an 1840's pioneer cemetery in Bureau County, IL where Jim & I located the gravesite of my 2xgreat grandparents, Nehemiah & Phebe Sampson Parris DeMaranville, in May of this year. The condition of Hunter Cemetery is deplorable, and is not, believe me, the only pioneer cemetery in this country, that has been neglected for decades. It just happens to be very near and dear to our hearts, because of the numerous members of my family buried here. Hunter Cemetery is also in this condition because a farmer, who owned the land in the 1950's & 60's, tried to raze the stones and bury them so that he could plow the ground for farmland. Fortunately, the neighbors in the surrounding area heard about this and stopped him; or this Pioneer Cemetery would be lost forever, just like the fate of so many others in this country. Jim & I have worked several weekends this summer trying to c lear the overgrowth of weeds and dead & fallen trees from Hunter Cemetery, so that eventually, it may be restored to a condition of respectability; not to mention the historic value of a cemetery such as this. Thus far, we have succeeded in clearing about 1/3 of the one-half plus acre of ground; and are very pleased with our results. One Sunday, while working at Hunter Cemetery, we were visitied by our new friends David & Larry Zeller of Zeller Tombstone Repair of Leaf River, Ogle, IL. When we came home yesterday from a weekend of wilderness camping with our son Rob & some of his friends; I found this link in an email message from David. This is not our website, but was place here by our friends, David & Larry Zeller of Leaf River, Ogle, IL. Thank you David! The site is best viewed on Netscape or Internet Explorer, and takes a long time to load. Please be patient. Hunter Cemetery Restoration Project http://www.homestead.com/zellerstombstone/HunterCemetery.html Jim & Mikki Judge P. The Annual Yackley/Grose reunion will be held Sunday, Aug 13 at the Izaak Walton League Campgrounds, north of Geneseo on Route 82. Potluck dinner, etc.
Is anyone familiar with the Mt. Zion Cemetery? I have an ancestor buried there and I'm wondering about the condition of the cemetery. I would also like to know who I could correspond with concerning the administration of the cemetery. Any help would be appreciated.
Bernie - the only LDS files you can get into online are the Ancestral File, the IGI and the FHLC (card catalog). And be careful using the first two - proofs are lacking throughout. You need to verify everything! You can find their website at: http://www.familysearch.org You can use the FHLC online or on CD at a Family History Center to search for films you need. Then use that film number to actually order the films at a Famly History Center. Mimi Stang

Mimi, I have only been at this a couple of years and am working on my Father (Verbout. I have email contact with a cousin in The Netherlands, doing great), my Mother Safranski, Polish, doing well in the U.S. but nothing in Poland), my wife's Mother-Lasic from Croatia, vistited there a couple of years ago, doing pretting good after the visit, her FatheMarinic from Slovenia, a relative just returned and obtained some basic info only. Lot's of fun now that I'm retired but I sure have a lot to learn. Can I get into the Mormon files on line or do I have to visit the Family History Center? Thanks for your message, Bernie Verbout
Can someone give the the address of the Vital records department in Springfield ? Thanks Bernie Verbout
To anyone, Does anyone have the address of this church ? Bernie Verbout
I have a photo I took during one of our days working on our cemetery restoration project in IL. On this tombstone, the letters CCA are in front of the man's name. This person was b. ca 1792, and died in 1859; so he would have been too young for the Rev. War, and died before the Civil War. Anyone have any ideas what the CCA stands for? Is this a military abbreviation, or some type of religious or fraternal status? I really appreciate your help. Thank you. Mikki Judge Buffalo, IA

Alfred's parents are JOHN and ELIZABETH JANE but she went by the name of JANE FERRY. We also think they are John's parents. We are trying to find John, JR. We have Alfred and we want to find John. Does anyone know where I can find the 1870 census online for Henry County, Briar Bluff or Genesoe? We have reason to believe that they or some of the family also lived in Genesoe. ( Think this is how you spell the name). We have traced Alfred and John to Missouri in Bates County before 1889 and they were living in the same house. Then Alfred moved back to IL and raised his family in Centralia, Il., Marion Co., IL. Alfred married Cynthia Ann Yohe in Mo. and they had 5 children born in Hillsboro, Montgomery Co., Il. and from there they went to Centralia, Il and stayed until their deaths in 1945 and 1944. We have obtained their death certificates and the children's birth certificates. We need to find Alfred's children's children to find more about this family line. Alfred had, Margaret May, Charles, Wendall. Hoping someone could recognize all this information and get back to us on this line. Thanks Georgia --------------16940E6CDD076237D304AEEC--
The Galva Historical Society is located at 906 W. DIvision in Galva, Illinois 62704. The phone number is 309 932-8992. Mrs Darlene Holevoet is there daily and the phone does have an answering machine. I grew up in Galva and yet cant tell you much about Mr. Wiley except, yes he did live in the house that houses the Historical Society and there is a park named after him in town. Does anyone know what the hours for the Galva Historical Society are? Also, does anyone know the address to this society. It will help you figure out what (newspaper-wise) can be borrowed from the Illinois State Historical Library via Interlibrary loan. It isn't perfect, but it is a big help. As several others have noted, most of the Henry County newspapers are also available at the Kewanee Public Library (also perhaps the Geneseo library?). But the web page I cited above helps you know what issues are likely to be available on microfilm anywhere. Rollie
Mary, Try the Kewanee Public Library. They have them on microfilm and they might have some for that time period. Check out the Geneseo Republic's web page at www.terrynews.com it started around 1856 I think. I don't know if they have it on microfilm or not. But worth checking out.
