    3. Hi, Katie, Thats exactly what I have. Did we get this from the same place??? He now owns 280 acres of well-improved and highly cultivated land on Sectors 4 and 9, Yorktown township. Mr. Clementz was born in Alsace-Lorraine, at that time under the French government, on the 6th of July, 1844, but was only nine months old when brought to this country, in 1845, by his parents, John and Michelina (Highmaster) Clementz, both were born near Strasburg, Germany, the former in 1813, the latter in 18--, The family first located two and a half miles from Naperville, in DuPage County, Il, where the father purchased 140 acres of land, partly covered with timber, and to the development and cultivation of this farm he devoted his time and attention for twelve years. During this time our subject aided in the work of the farm and learned very little English, as German was the language spoken in the home. He then accompanied the family on their removal to Lorraine township, Henry County, where a farm of one hundred and thirty acres was purchased, and here he attended the district schools for a time, pursuing his studies in an old log hut with log seats standing on pegs driven into the floor. There were no desks. After seven years spent at this place, the family returned to Naperville. Xavier remained with his parents two years longer and then again came to Henry County, this time locating in Yorktown township. Subsequently, the father traded his Naperville farm for land in Yorktown township, which our subject operated. In 1886, he purchased 200 from his father, and since has bought eighty acres from Mr. Bogardus. Nearly all of the entire tract has been broken by himself, and has been converted by him into one of the finest farms in Yorktown township. Xavier Clementz is the 3rd in order of birth in a family of 5 children: Josephine, wife of Conrad Seyler, of Prophetstown Lena - wife of D. Smith, a farmer of Yorktown township August - who married Barbara Creygar and died in Naperville in 1889. Kate - wife of George Seyler, of Yorktown township Xavier Clementz has been twice married. In December, 1869, in Loraine township, he married Miss Louisa Gross, who died Oct 20, 1873, leaving Frank and Dora (wife of August Seyler). On the 20th of June 1874, Mr Clementz married Miss Mary Vogel, a native of Naperville, Il and a daughter of Anthony and Mary Ann (Seyler) Vogel, lifelong residents of Germany. Her father was born near Strasburg, her mother in Alsace-Lorraine. By his second marriage, Mr. Clementz has eight children: Anna (Apr 5, 1875) William (Sep 15, 1877) Bertha (Jan 22, 1880) Martha (Jan 28, 1883) Josephine (May 12, 1886) Katie (Dec 26, 1890) Fred (Sep 19, 1892) and John (Feb 7, 1894) all are at home Mrs. Clementz passed away Sep 1893. But apparently there are no records extant for burials prior to 1920, allegedly because the (recently fired) ex-sexton burned them that year. The index was made by the Henry County Genealogical Society by transcribing from the tombstones which survived to 1989. Rollie

    3. The so called "Egert Book" or aka "the BIG Green book" is a family tree done by Mary Jane Egert of Annawan and Linda Oberle Perkins. They lived neighbors in Eight Mile, their families played together and had always known they were related, some how. They set off to discover exactly how. Many of the Loraine Township or "Eight Mile" families with names like Oberle, Egert, Clementz, Yackley, Rink, Hummel, have married into each other. These wonderful ladies searched court records, library records and family records, and compiled this book of over 300 pages. Complete with plat maps, and pictures. This was done about 1983, and they sold it to family members for about 16.00. Mine is so worn I've had to put it into a three ring binder! Hope this answers your questions. I've made a 'sorta' index of all the surnames, and how they are connected with each of the seven siblings of George and Anastasia Yackley (Jaegli) Egert. The children are: Joseph "George" Egert b 13 Aug 1822 Michael Egert b 24 Oct 1828 Barnhart (Bernard) Egert b 03 Spt 1836 Theresa (Dress) Egert b 30 Spt 1838 mar RINK Helen Egert b 02 Aug 1840 mar OBERLE Julienne Egert b 15 Dec 1844 mar CLEMENTZ Daughter b about 1846-47 drowned 2 other children no information All the children were born in Wittisheim, Alsace, France and immigrated with parents. 3. Hi Joan, Helen DEZUTTER SHEETS was a sister to my Grandmother, Sophie DEZUTTER VERKRUYSSE. I have no dates on her or Clyde's birth date, location or death date, or location. I have her marrying Clyde Edward SHEETS on 23 November 1927, Henry County, IL. I have no children. Just trying to figure out some loose ends. There are always loose ends! 1. [ILHENRY-L] Re: St. Anthony's Cemetery
    2. Hi Bob; You've sparked my interest! :) Clyde and Helen Sheets were next door neighbors to my mother when she was growing up in Atkinson, and they were very good friends for many many years. I knew Helen as "Ma" Sheets. May I ask what your connection to the Sheets family is? Not familiar with the other names you mentioned. My family line does not have a DEZUTTER, but it does have a DeShepper, if there might be a connection there. Have you checked the Henry County Webpage at <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilhenry/">http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilhenry/< /A> ? Scroll down to the Cemetery listings and go to that page.....you will find a listing for all of the Atkinson/ Cornwall Township cemeteries, and a booklet that is available from the Henry County Genealogical Society for $10, which includes St. Anthony's. These records are not online, but I have found the HCGS cemetery booklets to be very good. For anyone else who has not been to the Henry County webpage, it would be to your advantage to peruse this sight for genealogical information in Henry County. Susie Martin-Rott has one of the best County pages, in my opinion, in the whole country. Very informative, very well put together, and very easy to browse. Check it out. BTW, for those of you who are thinking Susie & I must be personal friends...I have never met the lady, nor are we related.....I give this endorsement just from my experience of using the web, and the countless number of County pages I have seen. :) I also might add the Atkinson Museum has a very extensive collection of photos, history on the town, and it's early residents. Bill Freddy, Curator, was given an award last year for his work on setting up this museum, I believe by the State Historical Society. He is more than happy to help in anyway he can. You can write to him c/o Atkinson Township, 400 N. State St. P. O. 3. Are you related to the Clementz's in Annawan? I bowl with a woman who I always thought I was related to through the Clementz' Clara Egert who married Robert Clementz. But when we looked through the book, couldn't find any references to them. Another different family, I believe one of their names was Xavier Clementz. I work next door to Clementz Appliance in Geneseo, and will check with them for a connection, too. I love a good puzzle! k -----Original Message----- From: James Seyller [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, August 22, 2000 11:53 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ILHENRY-L] Seyller Information Hello Kathy, I have seen the Egart Book that Shirley Heitzler has and I am facinated with the info put together in it. I was hoping someone may have some info on disk or cd that could tie George with other Seyller immigrants. There are a lot of them around Hampshire, Il. that I can't connect with, but are undoubtely connected back in Alsace Loraine. I don't have a Benny in my info. Either that was a nickname or he could have been related to the Seyllers in Kewanee which are connected to the Seyllers around Hampshire. 3. Does anyone have a copy of the following Quarterly? I have a CD that includes my family that came from Germany. The CD gives the names and ages along with the year of arrival. It doesn't give the ship name or port of departure. If there is more information in the original article I would appreciate knowing what it is. The names I am interested in are; Sophie Papendick, Caroline Papendick, S. Papendick (should be L. for Louis), Wilhelm Papendick, and Fredereike Papendick. They came here in 1862. The source of the information is listed as; "SHIP PASSENGER LISTS." By Michael Cassady. In Illinois State Genealogical Society Quarterly, vol. 16:1 (Spring 1984), pp. 5-17. I have recently become a member of the Illinois Gen. Society and also Henry County Gen. Society, but this particular Quarterly is not available from them. Thanks in advance, Judy Papendick [email protected]
