Hi Pamela, I was pleased to connect with a descendant of the STROHECKER line. About 95 percent of the 15, 000 descendants of Johannes and Christina GERBER were Amish-Mennonites. Their first child John GERBER, father of Leah, appeared to be a member of the Reformed church. The STROHECKERs were Lutherans, I believe. They may have attended the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reading, PA -- the historical records could be a good source of information on STROHECKERs. You should check with your local genealogy (or historical) society -- Daniel's father was a Revolutionary War hero. I vaguely recall a reference to a Henry Co., IL publication that would contain a lot more on him. My information comes from the DAR applications that were filed by his descendants. Let me know if you find anything. Doris, thanks for looking this up. I have some information that gives Henry, father of Ida, a brother named August. I don't have any record of Sophie, the mother or the sister. he family alos has a Paul Kempcke who was born on 8/5/1885. would that have been before or after the ship reached the US? Do you have any other ideas where I might look to find when and where Ida and her father and mother came to the US and on what ship? Glenn
Hi Saw your message, there are many Blankenships in the Franklin county, and Crawford County, MO area. Try a query to the Four Rivers genealogical Society located in Franklin County, Washington, Missouri. sorry I do not have their email address but you should be able to find it easily. Susie the photos are on their way to you now. I hope they are not too big. I am not that literate on the puter yet to do pictures. This is the best I can do. Hope they are ok. Have a nice day :) Janice
Susie, I can send you 3 photographs. Do I send them directly to you or elsewhere. I will send them email. Janice
A couple new things up on the website-(finally)... First, our GenConnect boards did not include one for transcribed marriage records--since we received a transcribed marriage certificate in email, a page for such records has been added Next, a very exciting new feature--our PHOTO ALBUM has been started--so far there are 13 pages of photos of Henry County residents in the album. Those of you researching Whitehouse, Martin, Lamb, Woodward, Bryner in particular will find some of your folks there, as I've picked through my personal collection. So far most of the photos (but not ALL) are from my family album, so you folks with scanners get busy or everyone will think all the folks in Henry County were mine (GRIN)
Great finding your message posted on the [email protected] I am a direct descendent of Reuben Strohecker. I didn't have all of the children, of David Strohecker. I only had Reuben and John. So thanks for that! I did have Leah's father. But I had the last name listed as Garber, not Gerber, so thanks for the clarification. Daniel Strohecker's father was John Strohecker born 1755 in Boden Germany, died 1835. He was married to Julianna Hunder. That's all I have. Thanks for the extra info. Thank you Judy. I would just feel a little funny returning them since it was my husband and daughter that got it for me for Christmas last year. Hate to return things I get for Christmas even if I can't use them. Besides they got it at Staples, so FTW might frown on that. Oh well, maybe I can help someone else out with them. You can return any CDs from FTW that are not of use to you. I have done it and they have never questioned it. I try to find the info elsewhere since their CDs are so expensive. Hi In your Finch surnames do you have a William Finch that m. a Mattie L Taylor? Hope to here form you soon. Carol in Calif
Does anyone know if there is compiled a book on the cemetery inscriptions for the Edford Township, St. John's Lutheran Church, Glenn, Dayton Corners, and the private cemetery in Colona Township located on the Baum farm? If so, do you know where they may be located? While I don't expect anyone to look up these names, I'm just listing the fact that I'm researching the following surnames: RASCHKE, FIRCH, MONTGOMERY, ADAMS, ENGLE, KINCAID, FINCH, DONDER, BLANK, OELKE, KANE, NEUMANN, POBANZ, MAGERKURTH, FURSTENAU, LOENSER and PATTISON. Thanks, John S. Raschke GHS-65 Springfield, IL
Sorry, only German Doris
I've noticed Bureau County mentioned in a couple of postings. I live in Bureau County and am offering to help those of you that need it. Contact me privately with your info & I'll see what I can do. Doris... On the Ship Passenger Lists you have, do these pertain to England's immigrants also? If so, would you mind checking to see if the following are listed on it? John Bishop Mary Ann Bishop (wife) Children:William & James They emigrated in 1883, according to a 1900 census. I don't know if any others came with them at that time. Doris, Could you look for my grandmother who emigrated from germany about the fall of 1883? Her name is Ida Bertha Kempcke, daughter of Henry J. Kempcke and Johanna maria Louise Traeger. thanks for your effort. Glenn hall
Glen: No Ida. I did find an August, a Hugo, and a Sofie in 1885. Sofie was the mother. All on same ship. Sorry Doris
Just because the name does not appear in the cemetery books doe not mean they never lived there. Geneseo is about 6000 in population today. There are two cemeteries, Oakwood Cemetery and North Cemetery, in the city limits, but several others in the area. Depending on exactly where they lived, they could have been buried somewhere else. You could write to some of the County offices listed on the Henry County Web Page. Anyone out there with more experience than I have to help Luc? Wish I could be of more help. Just one more thing: does the fact that GINNEBERGE does not appear in those cemetery lists mean that they never lived there?
