According to "Newspapers in the Illinois State Historical Library", they have all 1902 issues of the Galva News. You can get microfilm of these papers quite inexpensively via interlibrary loan. The Galva Public Library has them on microfilm. Bob Nelson
Does anyone know where old copies or microfilm of old copies of the Galva Weekly News would be? I am particularly interested in March, 1902. They printed the "Notice to Creditors" when my great grandfather, Nels P. Anderson died. I am guessing there would be an obituary there as well. Any leads are appreciated, Ruth Kern
Jacquie, Following on another request from someone else If you do have access to some immigrations records could you look up Christian Henry Gran. He was listed as living in Andover in 1860 so he probably came from Lubeck Germany in the 1850's. If you can I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you regardless. Carole [email protected]
Jacquie: You sound as if you have access to some immigration records. Is there any way you can look for a Mathew or Mathias Termondt? Would have come over in late 1870's or early 1880's. Would have lived in Kewanee. I'd be ecstatic. Thank you in advance. Greetings, I would like to thank all of you that responded to my posting. I learned more in a couple of days that I could have ever learned on my own. It was awesome and I was thrilled!!! I wrote for a copy of these naturalization papers some time ago and was told they could not find them but I gave the name Samuel August Turner without knowing he was known as August Turner. Could someone tell where to write to for a copy of the naturalization papers and also a copy of the intent for naturalization. Also, are the Lutheran Church membership records available for Henry County? Thank you again for all of your help and I love hearing about Henry Co and all of you. My family is from Kalmar, Sweden and maybe I have common roots with some of you. I've been off the list and away from my research for a long time -- but I am finally able to start working on it again. Even though I have been inactive, I have managed to acquire some interesting items relating to Henry County. I recently rescued several Galva High School year books from my father's home. He was planning to throw them away -- told me he couldn't imagine why any one would want them. My father is Harold Curtis Binge who was born and raised in Galva. He graduated in 1936. My mother was Ilene Wright, also a Galva native, who graduated in 1935. She died in May 1998. I have the year book from 1932, a combined book from 1933/1934 and the individual yearbooks from 1935 and 1936. The books are NOT indexed, but the senior class pictures are in alphabetical order. If anyone has a family member who graduated from Galva High School in those time periods, I would be willing to try to scan and send the picture. Hi, I am new to the list and I am anxious to learn more about Henry Co and contribute what I can. My grandfather came to Rock Point by flat boat in 1870 and moved to Lynn Center, Henry Co where another child was born in 1871. My ggrandfather and his family were from Kalmar, Sweden. His name was Samuel August Johansson Torne Turner (b 1830). He took the name Turner when he came to the US. I would like more information about my Grandfather but I think this will take some searching. I would like to hear from someone who can give me information about resources in Lynn Center. I would also like to know about the trip by flat boat to Rock Island. I found this very interesting. Another area I have not had too much success is locating the intent records for naturalization for a family that lived in Lynn Center. This is a lot of questions but I would appreciate any help in pointing me in the right direction. Thanks to all of you, Beth

Does anyone know where people from New Windsor went for photographs around 1890? ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 02, 2001 9:48 AM Subject: [ILHENRY-L] Kewanee photographers
I have a number of photogaphs of relatives in Kewanee, c. 1880-1900, taken by a photographer by the name of Wilson. Which leads me to speculate about what might have happened to others. Does anyone on the list know anything regarding this photographer? Would there be a collection of old photographs in the historical society, for instance that were by this photographer? I have photographs from Atkinson's. The back of the "card" reads "Atkinson's Photographic Railroad Gallery, Orion, Ill, Card Photos $1.50 per dozen, Cabinet Photos $3.00 and $4.00 per dozen." There was also a Dempster Photographer in Orion, and an A.P. Brandt in Moline. I have one additional photo from "Lind" but it does not give a location. Hope this helps. Kim
Does anyone have any information on Henry County photographers named: J.W. Emery and another named Atkinson. Emery worked in Galva and Atkinson possibly in Orion. Any information would be helpful. Jack MIller [email protected]

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help me locate the burial places for Lawrence Roelofson (d. 4/1/1855) and his wife, Sarah Campbell Roelofson (d. 1862) both in DeWitt Co. One report I have received says they are buried in Waynesville, but I'd like to be sure. Lawrence & Sarah had 12 children: Sarah, Elizabeth, Moses, Margaret, Naomi, Esther, Tabitha, Ann, Martha, Mary J., William Anderson, and Thomas Smith. Thomas Smith was probably the last of their male children to leave IL and go west. His parents lived with him till their death. His siblings had all moved west prior to their parents passing. Some of the daughters stayed in the IL area ... probably in Tazewell Co. or near by. If anyone can help me out with cemetery location information ... I thank you in advance. Please contact me at my email address. Be well & God bless, Kate Beaugrand Cook Minnesota [email protected]
