1. Re: [ILHENRY-L] Julius Chapin & Zerah Chapin additional reply
    2. Richard...one more thought...note that one of the kids/ Elizabeth was shown in 1860 as born in CT and in 1870 she was shown as born in Ill. My bets are on CT. That would mean that the family more than likely came from one of the new england areas..unless they made a side trip into NY So...that said....here are some for you to check out Julias Chapin Worceter Co, Milford MA page 55 Julius Chapin Hampden Co, Chicopee page 207 Julius Chapin Wyoming Co, China, NY page 354 J Chapin Cattaraugus Co, Burton NY page 219 Julie

I did find O. H. Loomis who was actually O. N. Loomis in the 1850 census....he was with wife Cornelia...no children. I have done some previous research on these people....the Loomises....but don't know where the info is right now. O. H/N Loomis was apparently the son of Selah Loomis Hope the above helps...it's all I have access to. Julie

There is also a guest book, if you would like to sign it. http://www.homestead.com/zellerstombstone/HunterCemetery.html Your time is valuable and I appreciate you sharing some of it with me. 3. I am interested in the Swedish Nelsons, some of whom I believe to be my direct ancestors. My source for this information is a gravestone in Andover Lutheran Cemetery, which on one side has the names of my great grandfather Arthur Vigor and his wife GERDA C. NELSON (Apr. 26 1887-Jul. 28, 1945), and on the other side, Arthur's father Swan Vigor and (his wife apparently) CAROLINA S. NELSON (Oct. 28, 1834-Jan. 28, 1911). -Matthew B. 1. [ILHENRY-L] MONROE family, Kewanee
    2. Hello. I am searching for information on the Monroe family that settled in Kewanee in the early 1900s. Charles Leroy Monroe (aka, Roy Monroe, Leroy C. Monroe) was found on the 1910 census living with his wife Ella Masker. The 1920 Census lists him living with his second wife Katherine M. (Monroe) and their 5 month old daughter Dorris E. Monroe. His mother is living nearby with her second (?) husband August Krueger and her son Edward Monroe. Letters from Charles Leroy to my grandmother in the 1940s mention that Doris married a man named "Whittie" (a nickname) and moved to Galesburg. He also mentions genealogical information that he enclosed in the letter that he transcribed from the family bible. Unfortunately, my grandmother didn't keep that information and I would like to make contact with anyone that might know anything about this family. Thank you, ShellyH in So. CA.

    3. I'm researching my G-Granpparents Edward & Emily DE SMITH. From Eede and Sint Kruis, they departed for Atkinson, Illinois on March 4, 1894. Edward was naturalized in Atkinson on February 18,1902. They lived at Mineral, IL. I'm told Edward guarded prisoners working on the canal. They moved to Walnut Grove, Minnesota in 1912 where they are buried. I'm also looking for Emily's parents, Jan Bernard ONDERDONCK & Seraphina Rosalia PACQUEUR from Sint Kruis. They may be duried near Atkinson. Jan (John) Onderdonck born June 27, 1840 at Bentille, Belgium. I have a picture of him with this date on back. Any information is appreciated. 2. Thanks to all who replied. I just checked the FHL Catalog online for 1855 State Census of Illinois and found this info. "The ILstate archives is missing 1855 census schedules for several counties....Henry Co. included...... Looks like I'm out of luck....They have the schedules for surrounding counties but not Henry..... If anyone finds out differently, please inform me..... Again, thanks for all your help. Grace

    2. I will add that the charge is minimal. Something like $3.75 and after you order it, it usually takes 3 weeks to arrive, but can take a little longer if the film has been sent somewhere else first. 2. Grace - I believe that those ladies were trying to tell you that you could order the 1855 state census on microfilm from Salt Lake City, through your local Family History Center, not necessarily that they would have it onsite. Family History Centers are never going to have all the films that they have in Salt Lake City - that would be impossible. But, you can use the Family History Catalog online and get the film number and description that you need to order the film and then take that to your local FHC to actually place the order. Good luck! 2. Julie & Jacquie, Thank you for your replies. I will check again at the FHC branch here, but I don't think they have Henry Co., IL. They have the index, this is where I got the page numbers from. I will check again to make sure. I thought maybe the Henry Co. list might have it.....Thanks, Grace

    1. Re: [ILHENRY-L] 1855 State Census
    2. besides ordering the film from the LDS, you can also call Heritage Quest (see website) and purchase the film to own. Then you can take it to a local library or genealogy society with a microfilm reader and view the film. If there isn't an LDS family history center near you, then this is a very reasonable alternative. I just purchased state 1855 and 1865 census film for Rock Island Co. Julie

    2. Donna and Mikki - if you look in the front of the Oakwood Cemetery book published by the Henry County Genealogical Society, there is a map of the cemetery. It does not break the cemetery down into lots, but does clearly show the location of Section R. This book, and many others, can be purchased from the Henry County Genealogical Society - they are goldmines of information and I heartily recommend them to anyone doing Henry County research. It shows Nathan Gurney as in Block A, Lot 26, but no grave or cemetery number. There are a number of McArthurs in Block R, Lot 26 and they have Oakwood grave numbers listed. My husband's family lives in Henry County and I am well aware of all the snow you have had this winter and am sure the graves are anything but accessible right now! But spring will be here soon, right? Hope this little bit helps. Mimi Stang
