    2. Matthew, I checked the 1870 census for your Swan Vigor....but he did not appear in the index. And you would never find him looking for SWAN Vigor. However...an AUGUST Vigor did appear...and you will be happy with the results. Evidently Swan went by the name August from what I can tell. I'm glad you included some birth years in your information you posted on your querry. The years match up perfectly with August/Swan and Carrie(Caroline) Henry Co, Andover Twp page 263 1870 census August Vigor 38 Farmer $1200/1200 Sweden***** Carrie 36 keeping house Sweden****** John A 12 at school Illinois****** Hulda 8 Illinois Mary 5 Illinois Frank V 2 Illinois**** I had looked for them in the 1860 index for you...but could not find one listed Swan Vigor...so...I looked again after finding August in 1870...for an August Vigor in 1860 and I hit the jackpot for you: <huge grin>>>>> 1860 Henry Co, Andover page 899 August Vigor 38 laborer $300/150 Sweden SOPHIA 24 wife Sweden Jno 1 Sweden (note in 1870..it says he was born in Illinois) Anna 60 widow (must be August/Swan's mother) Sweden Victor 21 laboror (a brother maybe?) 2. I have the history on Kewanee/Wethersfield but I am at work right now. I can provide it later. By the way Wehtersfield was there first if that helps any; Kewanee came about because of the railroad track being built where it presently lies. Larry - In Virginia.

    3. I am in search of any and all information I can find about Swan Vigor and his wife[/wives]. Swan had a son Arthur Vigor and a son Frank Vigor. Arthur's obituary says that his mother's name was Sofia. This was probably Swan's first wife. Swan's grave stone at Andover Lutheran Cemetery is shared with a woman named Carolina S. Nelson, probably his second wife. According to the stone, Swan lived 1832-1910 and Carolina lived 1834-1911. If you have any information at all about this line, please contact me. Your help is greatly appreciated. -Matthew B. Vigor

    2. Susan Sellew
    3. Hi Richard & Julie, I am the person interested in O.H. Loomis. My grandmother's uncle, Horatio Sanford, moved to Kewanee from Belchertown, MA in the late 1850s or early 1860s. He enlisted in an IL regiment and was killed in 1864. I have his diary where he reports of sending money to O.H. Loomis whom he refers to as "cousin Loomis" although when O.H. Loomis received his effects, he was listed as his Agent. I believe they purchased land together as in letters from Loomis reported in the diary, he has watered apple trees that Horatio had planted. Since Chicopee MA is right next to Belchertown, I wonder if they didn't go out to IL together. I also wonder if there isn't a connection with the Chapin/Loomis/Sanford families. I am still looking for Horatio Sanford's 1863 diary which is refered to in his effects. Also, does anyone have a copy of the ledgers that list land transfers from late 1850s to early 1860s? I would like to know the property transfer number so I can request a copy of the deed. Susan Sanford Sellew Vermont At 12:02 AM 04/08/2001 -0700, you wrote: >> Julie, you have made my day. 1. [ILHENRY-L] Velma Lem[p]ke Krause
    2. Good day listmembers, I need some help. Back in the late 1930's, my mother [Dorothy WISSER MACK] along with her siblings were all placed in foster homes. My mother went to the LEM[P]KE farm [RR#1] in Kewanee, Henry Cty, IL. She grew up there with her foster sister, Velma. Velma was 15 years older than she. When Velma's parents passed away, Velma and her husband, Everett KRAUSE, finished raising my mother until the age of 18. At that time, my mother left the farm and returned to Chicago, Cook Cty, IL where she met my father, married and raised 4 children in Maywood, Cook Cty, IL. When my mother passed away, I lost track of Velma [Everett passed away in 1982]. Since becoming involved in tracing my family tree, I thought many times about Velma & Everett. I did not know how to get in touch with Velma and considering she'd be in her late 80's, I assumed she could have passed away. My assumption was incorrect. Recently, through Rootsweb's SSDI, I find Velma passed away Feb 20th of this year and in Kewanee, IL. Would SKS who has access to the Kewanee Newspapers, please see if there was an obituary around the time of her death or perhaps know where I might be able to find out where she's buried or find this info for myself. I live in Cook County and haven't an availability to check this out for myself. Thank you in advance for any help you may pass my way. Beverly Mack Zanon Researching: LEM[P]KE KRAUSE

    2. Dick....no problem...and I was glad to be of some help. It's not only fun to find some good stuff like that...but for me, it's a payback for all the help I got earlier in my searches, when I was just new at this genealogy stuff. All the best to you in your own searches. As to the Loomises....since there was some intermarriage earlier in the lines...it's not hard to believe that cousins might have ended up in the same place. Somebody else was looking at that Loomis family a while back (and I mean a ~while~)...but I don't think I have their emails any longer. If I locate the Selah Loomis info in my filing cabinet on the computer....I'll send it to you.
