I am searching any information available on the following HOOVER family I havefamily photos of this family and suprisingly was close to George Lee Hoover's wife (my great grandmother) but due to a messy relationship with him she would not go into his family details. I know that the HOOVER men were members of the Masons and owned construction companies in the Chicago area. I would appreciate ANY ANY information or possible leads...thank you Stephen George W HOOVER b. May 1878/1879 in Illinois married Julia Unknown (possibly BUTLER or ANDERSON) b Feb 1879 in Iowa They had the following two children: Henry C HOOVER b. Aug 1897 in Illinois George Lee or Leo HOOVER b. AUG 1899 (possibly 15 Aug 1899) Henry C HOOVER married Marie Unknown in 1920/1921 who was from West Virginia they had a son Henry HOOVER b. 1921/1922 1930 US Federal Census for the State of Il, Cook County Des Plaines Incorporated, Maine Township has both George W HOOVER and his wife and separate household of Henry HOOVER living in Maine Township both workin in construction as formen. 1920 US Federal Census for the State of Il, Henry County, Geneseo Township (excluding Geneseo City) ED 124. This information was retrieved from the Ancestry.com website. Image 9 of 16. Lines 32-35 1900 US Federal Census has the family living in Ross Township of Taylor County, Iowa ED122 image 109A George Lee/Leo HOOVER married Merle ALLEN in 1923 in Geneseo, Henry County. They had two sons George Lee/Leo HOOVER jr who died at birth before 1928 and John Lee HOOVER b 1929. George Lee left Merle in 1929/1930 and per Merle moved to Bel Aire California. I cannot locate him in the 1930 US Census except maybe living in San Francisco. I believe that George Lee HOOVER was b.15 Aug 1899 and may have died 30 Jan 1967 in Ventura Ca. That persons death certificate lists mother's maiden name as Anderson per the California Death Index. There is a listing: HOOVER, GEORGE BUTLER, JULIA married in KNOX county IL 11/27/1896 Liscense # 00011905 00G/0087 I cannot locate my copy of the documentation but I found an 1880 Iowa Census that lists a Julia Butler living next to the Anderson family who was from Norway. My grandmother who met Julia said her family spoke something that sounded like German and that they were recent immigrants at her birth or she was not born here. The maiden name Anderson listed on George Lee's Death certificate was provided by his last wife who may not have had the correct information. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hi Listers, Since a few weeks I am the lucky possesor of the compilation of the Birth-, Marriage-, and Death registers of the village of St. Laureins in the East Flanders of Belgium, for the period 1628 - 1802. I am offering you to do look ups, so don't be shy! In the mean time I want to let you know that Bernard Benjamin MAPES, married to Angelina BEGYN from Atkinson, has been located as Leonard MAEBE from Vosselaere in Belgium; further details are known! It seems that Leonard Maebe/Ben Mapes first landed as an emigrant in Michigan in 1865 and later moved to Illinois, where he married Angelina Beghyn in 1877. Perhaps someone is able to locate him in Michigan? Surnames used for Maebe: Moppe, Mappe, Van Meps and Mapes. Leonard Maebe died as Ben Mapes on 6-2-1911 in Atkinson, Henry Co. Could someone trace his obit? Have a nice weekend, Ed van de Walle - Tilburg / Nederland e-mail; edmundus@home.nl

Your first request was for a Ben who died on 6/2/1911. But it might be Bernard who died 2/6/1911. You might want to clear that up so if there IS someone who can do an obit, they are looking for the right guy on the right date. Just trying to help. Hope you don't mind. We have one of the most active Roots-L lists in the US in Floyd Co.the town of Floyd has only 1 traffic light.only 400 people..no railroads in the Co. no water flows into Floyd Co..all flows out..lots of old-timers who can flatfoot..Oh, and the town has 3 funeral homes.. I can send you a site privately that has the Floyd Friday Nite Jamboree on it..lots of flatfooters from 8 to 80... PS ..I am enjoying the Henry Co. list.....Ole Paul keep the mail comin' to Ole Paul
Bob...busy sending info. to some friends who are smarter than me in researching..I have WebTv that limits what I can do, but allows me to sit back in my recliner with my remote keyboard and see the results on my big TV screen ..Hee, Hee, when I retired, I REALLY retired....... My wife had a relative whose wife died after having 2 children..he wanted to re-marry to someone who would be good to his children, so he married his wifes mother! so she was his kids Mom and their Grandma too.. hee, hee.true story ! Hee, Hee, am busy running down some leads...Thanks to your list..I am in Floyd Co, VA and about 1/2 of the populace here migrated to IL in the 1800's looking for some level land.... Ole Paul keep the mail comin' to Ole Paul
Hi Paul, welcome to the list! I sure hope that you have a cam so that we can all see you do the VA flatfoot dance! This is too good of a list to make a promise that you don't want to carry thru. I've still got older relatives in Woodhull, so I will check with them and see if they can give me any info on this person. I don't see them very often, but I will try and contact them after the holiday weekend. Hey Ole Paul! We here in the Old Line State do some footwork also! It sometimes is called the Maryland Slide. We get into contention in football and then start to slide! And oh, yes, truth is often a compromise you see. The town is neither Woodhall or Woodhuff - but rather Woodhull! This list has magicians in it as you have seen...Robert came forth with great help and if he hadn't I'll bet others would have tried (and may still be trying!)
