Posted on: Hancock County, Il Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Hancock?read=1058 Surname: ------------------------- I'm in the process of adding pictures of tombstones in the following Hancock County Cemeteries, Majorville, Webster, Fountain Green and Willis, to my website. I've begun with the stones belonging to my extended family lines, plus other non-related individuals, but my goal is to eventually display a picture of every tombstone in each of the four cemeteries. I'm inviting everyone who has someone buried in these cemeteries to contribute content to these pages. If you already have a photo of a tombstone that you would like to share, send me an e-mail and I will provide simple instructions. If you don't have a photo, I will prepare a page, temporarily sans photo. These pages may also include a photo of the individual/s buried there and text about the individual/s. At the submitter's request, I will include the submitter's name, e-mail address and area of research, so that future viewers may contact the submitter directly. My webpages are located at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~majorville/ Scroll down about 3/4 of the first page and click on the link for "View Hancock and McDonough Sites". >From that page, select the link to "Visual Tour of Tombstones at" the cemetery of your choice. For an example of a text addition to a page, from the Majorville page click on the link for Pogue, Ira Carson. Each of these pages is under construction, I have another two rolls of film to process and hope to complete this within the next week. It will take at least one or two more trips to Hancock County before I will have a picture every stone, so contributions from others will speed the completion of this project. Taking the pictures is easy: deciphering and recording the information from the stone is the time consuming part, along with uncovering those stones that have become grown-over with grass, daylilies or (in a couple of cases) poison ivy. My husband and I managed to avoid the poison ivy, but the chiggers got us both. Lesson learned! Some of the stones already displayed were difficult to decipher; I've indicated that when I could not be sure of the inscription. In addition to the tombstone pictures, I've included a number of pages with information I hope will be of interest to those researchers interested in the Majorville neighborhood and history. There is also a Majorville Bulletion Board where visitors may post comments or inquiries specifically pertaining to Majorville. If there is sufficient interest, I will add similar bulletin boards for the other cemeteries. Link: Deep Roots in Hancock County URL: <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~majorville/>
