Posted on: Hancock County, Il Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Hancock?read=1127 Surname: CARLILE, TROXEL ------------------------- I have information from the history of Bear Creek Township that says that Mary Carlile was one of fifty charter members of the Baptist church formed at Basco. Also listed were Robert Carlile. ...Eleven months after the first Baptist Church was organized the members resolved to build a brick meeting house. This evidently located on Lot 5, N.. quarter Section 21 , as in June, 1861, the trustees of the Baptist church made a quitclaim deed to the property to Mary Carlile.... futher on it states that Plot ten consisted of 34.90 acres belonging to James Carlile , and laid just south of the row of "blocks" facing north on the west main street . The original Sommerset was located in Section 16, while the survey on the south side of the street was in section 21. This comes from Chapter 24 pages 190-195. I don't know if this is the Mary Carlile you are interested in. Maybe you are researching her daughter Mary Carlile. I assumed the one mentioned in this history was the one I have been researching who was married to James M. Carlile. But her maiden name was Troxel. I have information on some Carliles who came to MN. I am interested in anything more on the Carliles of Hancock County. I will exchange. I live in Laporte, MN. Where do you live? Debbie
