(Also government American white marble head stone. =-=-=-=-= 1st Lt. Thomas B. White was the son of Jary White Sr. and Lucena Lawrence. He served in Company A, 118th Regiment, Illinois Volunteers. The phrase about his burial should probably begin: Buried by his brothers at arms or Buried by his brothers in arms I believe the markers in the Alton Cemetery are commemorative markers. There is also a marker for him at Vicksburg National Cemetery, Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi, Section O, grave #4324. The meaning of the phrase "M. Black River Bridge" is unclear.
