Hi, I measured the dimensions of Old Brick Cemetery (the part that is fenced) this afternoon. It is, as the deed says, 20 poles (a pole is the same as a rod) by 8 poles (330 feet by 132 feet), which is exactly one acre. However, there is actually another half acre, not fenced, joining this acre on the east, which also belongs to Carthage township, as part of the cemetery, unless they have sold it. I've made copies of the deeds relating to all the transfers involving the cemetery that I am aware of, recently, from the records in the courthouse here in Carthage. There is an old tree down in the cemetery on the south side, and the fence is down on the north side in one place, and there are places that need dirt filled in. If the photo turned out, I will share (tomorrow) a picture of the spot where the old brick church stood. There has been some serious discussion of having a painting made of the old church, since it was the first church organized (and the building was the first house of worship erected) in Hancock county. I am hoping that will be done in the near future. More later, Robert ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
