Il Obituaries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/HancockObits/394 Surname: Boston, Dale, McVay, Robertson, Sherman, Wright ------------------------- Mrs. Ella McVay Laid To Rest Here Thursday Funeral services for Mrs. Ella McVay, who passed away at her home Tuesday, March 18, after a short illness, were held at the Fecht Funeral home at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon with Rev. W. C. Burk and Rev. Morgan Webb officiating. Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Cutler, accompanied by Mrs. Ted Lane sang. The pallbearers were Olaf Dickinson, Gay Boston, Ernest Boston, Vernon Wright, Glen Dickinson and William Hayes. Interment was in Moss Ridge. Peachy Ellen Boston, daughter of Reuben and Sarah Dale Boston was born at the family home five miles southeast of Carthage Aug. 27, 1865. Her parents were members of pioneer families of that locality who came from Woodford county, Ky. She attended East Union school where she later became the teacher. She always retained her interest in the school and in education in general. She was united in marriage to William G. McVay on Sept 5, 1889 in a double ceremony when her sister, Amanda became the bride of Lee Wright. Mr. and Mrs. McVay were parents of three daughters, Mrs. Emma Sherman of Carthage, Mrs. Hazel Robertson of Chicago and Fanny at home and one son, Chester and one granddaughter, Bonnie Sherman of Carthage. Mr. McVay died July 4, 1937. Mrs. McVay was a devoted member of the Carthage Baptist church, taking an active part in its various departments. In the community in which she spent her life she was interested in all undertakings for its improvement. She was a charter member of the East Union Parent-Teacher association and several years ago, in appreciation of her work in the association, she was presented with a life membership in the Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers. She was a member of the Friday Country club and of the W. C. T. U. Hancock County Historical Society Carthage, Illinois Siegfried XIX Page 141 Note: Newspaper date Thursday, March 27, 1947.
