D. E. Skiles officiating. Burial is in Moss Ridge cemetery. Mr. Johnson passed away Tuesday in Carthage Memorial hospital after a short illness. He was born July 17, 1879 to Geo. and Harriett Harter Johnson near Oak Grove. He married Pearl Gillenwater Feb. 19, 1903 near Oak Grove. He was a member of the Oak Grove Christian church and was a retired farmer. He lived in Hancock county all of his life. Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Mrs. J. Albert (Lena) Whitcomb, Burnside; Mrs. Lloyd H. (Leona) Gibson, Carthage; and Mrs. Lucille Melvin, Rock Island; three sons, Bill and Stephen of Carthage and Claude of Keokuk, Iowa; four grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, five brothers and one granddaughter. The occasion was observed with a delicious dinner shared by several relatives and friends. Sharing the anniversary event were the following relatives and friends of the Johnsons, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lovell and Wayne, Plymouth rural community, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Smith, Hamilton; Mrs. Lucille Melvin and Karen, Rock Island; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Johnson and Gary, Keokuk, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Al Whitcomb, Adrian; Mr. and Mrs. William Standard, Colchester; Cleveland Riggens, Mrs. Carrie Otteson, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gibson, Bill Johnson, Rolland Gillenwater all of Carthage rural area and Mrs. Verla Cludray of Plymouth. Mrs. Ralph Johnson is a sister of Mrs. Cludray. Mrs. Johnson was formerly Miss Pearl Gillenwater. They have spent their entire married life in Hancock county. Hancock County Journal and Carthage Republican Carthage, Illinois Thursday February 23, 1956 - --------------------------- 62nd Wedding Anniversary Of Ralph Johnsons Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Johnson of 228 N. Scofield St., Carthage, will observe their 62nd wedding anniversary on Feb. 19, 1965. Ralph Johnson and Pearl Gillenwater of Oak Grove community, were married Feb. 19, 1903. Monroe Riggins, an uncle of the bride, performed the ceremony at his home also in the Oak Grove neighborhood. They are the parents of 6 children: Claude Johnson of Keokuk, Ia., Mrs. Al (Lena) Whitcomb, of Adrian; Stephen Johnson of Route 1, Carthage; Mrs. Lucille Melvin of Rock Island; Mrs. Lloyd (Leona) Gibson; and Wm. L. (Bill) Johnson of Carthage. They also have one grandson, Gary Johnson, a student at Iowa City College. A son-in-law, Vincent Melvin, and a granddaughter, Karen Melvin are deceased. Mrs. Verla Cludray of Plymouth, is a sister of Mrs. Ralph Johnson. Due to ill health, no celebration is planned, however, they would enjoy hearing from their friends.
